Again a high mileage vehicle review. You are obviously subjecting this vehicle to abuse if you are off-roading it, so things are going to break. You have high mileage, so things are going to break. It isn't a brand new car by any means, or even close.

I think you are disappointed this SUV can't do what you want it to do more than anything else. All of your issues were probably caused by serious off-roading, so they would be your fault, not the cars. These are great vehicles if they are used properly, and within their limitations.

Buy an old Jeep if you want to go off-roading. They are made for more of that type of abuse.

We have a 95 RAV4 3 door manual, and it's been utterly reliable and extremely durable. We do regularly use it for light offroading e.g. up the beach and through paddocks etc, and it's perfectly adequate, would not however use it for serious offroading, but then we are realistic and appreciate that this vehicle was never designed to complete the Rubicon Trail. It's a cracker wee car, and I don't think that this review is particularly fair.

I have had a 1995 manual RAV4 for some number of years now and it has been the best most reliable car I have owned.

It offroads often - beach and up and down steep rutted dirt roads. Very reliable and tough.

My mother in law owns one too and she was rear ended a couple of years back, only had a dent in her RAV but other car was a write off.
