2004 Renault Grand Scenic Dynamique 2.0 16v VVT petrol

Summary:

An excellent second-hand family car buy

Faults:

Air conditioner performs poorly in our hot climate. It doesn't blow air powerful enough, although the temperature settings seem OK. Hence second and third row passengers suffer terribly on hot days.

Engine sounds a bit coarse when revved. Fuel consumption is quite high for city traffic at 13.5 - 15 ltr / 100 km, but it gets much better to 7 - 8 ltr / 100 km on highway driving. I wonder what makes such a significant difference.

Minor squeaks from door areas when vehicle is on a steep slope.

Radio reception is weak.

Packaging makes it difficult for DIY works around the engine bay area.

Brakes aren't strong enough.

Poor depreciation if bought new.

General Comments:

Bought this car for wife's daily commute as an interesting alternative to small hatches. She didn't like it at first (due to size) but came full of praises after few days of driving it herself.

The seats are very supportive and well contoured; great for either short or long journey. Excellent build quality, extremely flexible seating arrangements, numerous electrical goodies and safety features often amaze people who are not familiar with the make.

Ride is firm yet still pleasant, though this may be attributed to the Koni shock breakers installed by the previous owner. He said the stock ones are too soft and spongy.

Overall we're very satisfied with this car and looking forward to put many years of service into it.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
