2018 Chevrolet Trax 1.4 turbo
Summary:
A practical small SUV ruined by poor long‑term reliability, high fuel consumption, overpriced crowde
Faults:
Over the last few years the car has become a constant source of repairs. In 2025 alone I had to replace the radiator, water pump, coolant expansion (“red water”) tank several times, and many hoses and tubes in the cooling system. I’ve also had repeated issues with the combustion system (tubes/related parts), as well as brakes and other components needing replacement much earlier than I’d expect for a 2018 car. On top of that, the official service centre is always crowded, appointments are hard to get, and their prices can be up to three times higher than an independent garage. Overall, the car has spent far too much time in the workshop and the repair bills have been high and frequent.
General Comments:
My 2018 Chevrolet Trax started out as a practical small crossover with a comfortable driving position and reasonable space for a small family, but long‑term reliability has been very disappointing. As the car aged, especially after about 5–6 years, major components in the cooling system and other parts began failing one after another, turning it into a financial and logistical burden. The situation is made worse by an official service centre that is always crowded, expensive and slow, and by high fuel consumption of around 10 L/100 km in real driving, which makes day‑to‑day running costs quite heavy. All of this has completely overshadowed any positives in terms of comfort or features and has pushed me to look for an electric or hybrid car with lower running costs and better durability.
