1992 BMW 5 Series 525i e34 2.5 petrol

Summary:

Strong car, well built, not like today's cars, even new BMWs

Faults:

Coolant sensor when I bought the car.

Rear right central lock at 125000km.

Coolant radiator has a little leak, had to be changed to a new one "behr" at $157.

2 front shock absorbers when purchased.

AC air filter.

General Comments:

The car is amazing. I enjoy driving the BMW, especially the e34.

Very solid build, everything is good quality from inside-outside, except the door panels, so I had to put some glue on it.

Mine is a very clean car. Still looks like new.

I always do services on time (oil change, filters...) and everything has been going very well for almost 3 years, and is still going well.

I like the dashboard lights, like a plane.

The BMW has a presence and unique personality of its own. Mine is black and looks very nice.

I intend to keep it for 5 more years, and expect it to do well. Then I'll buy the next generation e39.

1997 BMW 5 Series 528i petrol

Summary:

The best ride money can buy

Faults:

The only problem I have is the "check rear fog lamp" which constantly turns on, but as soon as I turn on the lights, the warning goes.

Other than that, the best car I ever had, and now I`m going to sell it to buy the 2004 530.

General Comments:

What I like most about this car is the ASC, which really saved me one time.

The sound system is not that bad too. I can`t find another car of the same make or year with so many options inside.

1996 BMW 5 Series 520i 2.0 petrol injection

Summary:

Appealing, classy, refined, now a bargain

Faults:

Electric radiator cooling fan (for A/C) failed, causing A/C to cut out occasionally. Replaced fan.

Car died on highway, diagnosed as failed "computer" (DME = Digital Motor Electronics). Replaced entire unit.

Electric window lift mechanisms for both front windows replaced (frayed steel cables).

Rough idle diagnosed as vacuum leak (vacuum-related part replaced).

Other small annoyances (boot release failed, ashtray broken).

Otherwise generally good reliability considering the high mileage.

General Comments:

Silky smooth 6-cylinder engine, but underpowered for the car; acceptable in city driving.

Refined ride, great handling, comfortable seats (great leather, holding up well). Excellent cabin ergonomics.

Average fuel economy in city driving, good on open roads.
