1991 Ford Laser TX3 1.8 1.8 16v DOHC EFi

Summary:

Powerful, but lacks finesse

Faults:

Usual wear and tear stuff.

General Comments:

Powerful light car with a rorty 140bhp engine and low-ratio 5 speed manual gearbox, but unfortunately dogged by poor handling and so-so brakes.

Very mediocre ride comfort. Awful seats.

Average build quality. But it was reliable (this car is actually Mazda-derived).

Noisy, lacks refinement. Transmission gearing is too low for highway cruising.

Fuel economy is OK given the nature of the car.

Design-wise, the 2 door hatchback shape looks sporty.

I still own one of these. Your comments are very appropriate, but I love the car for its rawness and low maintenance cost, yet it is fast and sporty.

1985 Ford Laser S Twin Carb 1.5L 4 cylinder 8v SOHC

Summary:

Built Tough

Faults:

Because of it's age, the suspension, especially the shock absorbers, bushes, joints, etc needs to be check and replace.

The fuel system, twin carburetor also needs to be replaced (Consume lots of petrol) :- (

Rear old tyres need to be replace too (185/60/R13 <<--- 175/70/R13).

Steering wheel a bit loose, needs to be checked.

General Comments:

It's a reliable car and the engine is powerful too.

No major repairs till now.

My only concern is the RIDE and The Fuel Burning Efficiency.

Decides to convert the rear drum brakes to disc brakes for better braking especially when driving at high speed and also when in an emergency situation.
