No performance.

The car is good for short distance trips and city driving.

I have two other cars (Avanza i.3M) and Saga 1.5I M, but I am driving the Kancil more. I truly enjoy driving it and currently adding performance parts to get more power, and it's not disappointing.

Several things have gone wrong:-

1. Latest in August 2006. The plastic T-junction supplying water broke, causing my car to overheat to the max. Luckily, saw the MAX temp in time and stopped in the emergency lane. Had to get a tow truck to tow for 5km.. COSTS RM110.

Important notice to all Kancil users: If you these plastic T-junctions, replace em now with metal ones. If not, you may suffer dearly later.

2. Brakes not really up to it... just replaced the pads in 2005... Will have to do it again.

3. Batteries died in 2005, after nearly two years of use. Good performance there.

4. Tyres replaced in April 2006, after 3 years use. Some threads left, but not really confident about longevity. Costs RM90 per tyre.

5. Suspension is almost non-existent now. Time to replace, but lacking in funds :). It is also the time to replace the timing belt (Nearing 60000 km)

Car fuel consumption is quite OK, but don't get stuck in jams during the midday. The aircond is absolutely terrible.

Car no roomy, Kelisa is better.

Rattling sounds in the glove compartment from the day of purchase.

Both left and right drive shaft need to be replaced less than 6 months after purchasing this car.

Cheap, low quality plastic dashboard produce knocking sound, especially on undulating roads. Really annoying.

It is the cheapest car you can have in Malaysia. Used Kancils, especially the 1994 models can be bought at under RM 8,000, and the used car dealers can arrange financing for this car.

Handling is acceptably well, considering the tall nature of this car. Just don't try to drive this car like Karamjit Singh did.

Although with modest engine performance, the Kancil can climb steep hills, only you will have to push the gas pedal harder. Trip to Genting is relatively simple only if there's no passenger or heavy luggage at the back seat.

Most importantly, it consume little fuel. A trip from Kuala lumpur to Ipoh (200KM) only consume RM 15 of gas, but without the air conditioner in operation.

If you're not satisfy with the engine performance, used Daihatsu Mira engines can be easily installed to your Kancil, at the cost between RM1,500 and RM3,000. That should, at least, give a new lease of life to your Kancil.

The slim tyres for Perodua are too dangerous for driving especially during rainy days. Even for the air con is not cold enough. The back seater keeps on complain on my air con temperature.

The engine is not stable. Even for the car, it starts to tremble when travelling at the speed of 120 km/h. I bought the car just because of its reasonable and affordable price. And the meter board looks so ugly by placing it in the middle. It looks like a cap.
