2004 Renault Scenic Grand 2.0

Summary:

Innovative, with features well ahead of big names like M. Benz and BMW

Faults:

Left rear window not functional due to faulty electric motor on the power window regulator.

General Comments:

Faulty power window regulator seems to be a common problem for this car. Upon checking with the Renault dealer, I found that virtually all the scenic handled by them will have one of the 4 power window regulators replaced within the first 2 years of ownership.

The car is considered very reliable as I have not encountered any other problem since I bought it 8 months ago.

2004 Renault Scenic 1.6 16v

Summary:

Good

Faults:

The power windows were a constant problem. All four replaced gratis by the dealer.

Fly wheel sensor replaced at 100000km. This needs to be cleaned at each service according to the dealer.

Ignition coils replaced gratis by the dealer during a service.

General Comments:

This is a good family car. It is spacious and comfortable.

I do about 120km a day, and considering the use, the car has been fine.

Running costs are expensive, i.e. spare parts. The local dealer should look into this.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 1.6L 16v

Summary:

A nice car to own, unique in its class!

Faults:

Nice face lift. So far so good in general.

One of the rear seats is very difficult to remove. The dealer workshop informs me that this is due to the new metal design lever is binding due to thermal metal expansion, and it required some pressure to lift up the mechanism. I was also informed Renault realised this problem happened in hot climates like Malaysia and will change the design. This is not convenient for ladies.

The rear seat head rest is not comfortable, the design angle does not seem right. I have to take them off.

The front seat tilt adjustment knob is not user friendly. I have to turn quite a lot to get the seat adjusted, perhaps a lever type design would work better.

General Comments:

I like the design.

The engine is not very sporty, but does the right job for family use. Engine noise is a bit loud.

The roomy design makes long distance riding joyful.

2001 Renault Scenic RXE 1.6 petrol

Summary:

The car is excellent, and I would consider buying another 4WD version if it came with an automatic

Faults:

At the moment nothing except for some minor rattling sound from the front which comes and goes...

General Comments:

The car is comfortable for everyone, except that the steering is a bit awkwardly positioned. Maybe if the future model has adjustment for reach this problem could be solved.

I am considering buying the 4WD version, but waiting for it to be equipped with an Automatic Gearbox.

2001 Renault Scenic RXES 1.6 16v petrol

Summary:

Nice, efficient and you cannot ask for more

Faults:

None so far.

General Comments:

This is a nice family car. However the one delivered to me did not come with the alarm system fitted which is quite odd. It does comes with central locking and engine immobilizer as well as other standard items.

Being newly introduced in Malaysia, several accessories such as seat covers (which are unique), window air press and many other accessories I see available in New Zealand are not available locally.

Also all the Internet sites I have been to do not seem to show any repair manual being available for this model other than the Haynes. I need information on where I can get hold of the original repair manual for this car.
