1999 Volkswagen Golf Wolfsburg 1.8L gas manual 5speed SOHC

Summary:

Buy it, but be 100% sure it's worth it!!

Faults:

* Timing calibration

* Check engine light due to catalyst sensor

* Misfire piston 3 (new wires but connected wrong)

* Misfire piston 2 (bad wires)

* Missing water don't know where it's going? No leaks, not in oil, suspecting a bad connector between the engine and coolant compartment

* Faulty door locks (35 bucks to fix short out)

(repaired today)

OVERALL ALMOST 350+ dollars in repairs that were NOT contemplated for this Golf.

General Comments:

My GOD.

I bought this car TRUSTING VW's reputation on my 89 Jetta. Was I wrong.

For people that fall into that concept consider the following first:

1993 and up Models don't have the DIGIFAN injection used on late model 80's cars. This is system is much more efficient and reliable, not to mention powerful than the EFI on most cars on the road nowadays. It is by my terms a little more or a fuel consumer, like 10% or more, but it's worth it.

For a 2.0 you can't really hear or feel those 112 Hp. This solely because the transmission is a lot more comfortable, for a smoother ride, sacrificing acceleration. This is a plus again your MPG's are up.

For performance get the VR6. Again late model 80's Volkswagens came with the A9 transmission love it!

The car is back from the shop today for the 4th time in less than a month for the problems listed above.

The coolant issue has not been solved yet, but hoping to fix it soon.

I still have my 89 Jetta with 127xxx plus miles and drives like hell.

VW's has seriously disappointed me.

1993 Volkswagen Golf CL 1.8 turbo Manual

Summary:

Lovely

Faults:

The alternator makes so much noise so I have to replace a pice made of iron, and send it to be made bigger so it could fit like it has to.

Spends so much gasoline.

In winter the was a time here smoke came out from the starter, I really never knew was that, but it scared me at first.

I accidentally crash it 3 times, bad luck.

Spend so much gasoline.

In winter the alternator makes a funny noise before it warms up.

General Comments:

Very comfortable to be in the back side.

Nice to drive in highways.

0 to 60 in 7.5 second, is my best.

The price for services with the dealer are extremely high and please take a moment to consider that here in my country (Mexico) Technicians usually sont do the full service, even if you pay for it.

Replacement pieces are extremely expensive, sometimes I had to pay almost $50 U.S. for a part.

If you put a Sound over 135 dB the car makes the perfect resonance.

Women love to be on the back side.

1998 Volkswagen Golf GL

Faults:

Glove compartment and radio both broken when I bought the car, it took the dealer 3 weeks to fix.

Power Locks Froze.

Power steering blew at 60,000 miles.

Plastic siding fell off on 3 doors, still waiting for the last one to fall off.

Ignition coil and engine control until needed to be replaced.

Back ashtray and cup holder broke.

Entire rear left tire and drum flew off while i was driving, and i lived.

General Comments:

I'm not hard on this car, I ad wanted a volkswagen since I was 5 years old. So I was nothing, but easy and kind to this car, it has done nothing, but give me grief. I guess I was just "lucky" enough to buy a lemon.

My VW seems to have everyone's VW problems all rolled into one. The sad part is I'm still paying for it.

2002 Volkswagen Golf Comfortline 2.0 gasoline

Summary:

Highly recommended

Faults:

There has just came out a little sound from the dashboard, typical of the brand.

In the mornings, the DRIVE position of the gear selector won't enter, but until the 2nd time you try.

Sometimes the alarm doesn't sound when put on.

General Comments:

Great German.

Very comfortable, you can drive fast if you want and it handles better than some others that tell themselves sport.

The details that have came out are definitely not important.

There is nothing better than a Golf. Low cost, easy and fun to drive, you can drive fast safe, good brakes, super reliable. Do anything, go everywhere.

Enough passenger space and huge boot for a hatch.
