2001 Ford Mondeo Trend 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Reliable, spacious car

Faults:

The clutch had to be replaced because it was worn out. This was only the first time it had to be replaced. According to the dealership a clutch will normally only hold for about 150.000 kilometres. This one had done 250.000!

All four doors had to be repaired (under warranty) because of corrosion.

The car had always been serviced by the local dealership. They’ve showed me the car's service history; no serious repairs had ever been necessary.

General Comments:

Even with a very high mileage, the engine runs very smoothly. Although the 2 litre engine only has 20 bhp more than the 1.8, it's much faster and smoother. It's even a bit more fuel efficient.

The handling of the car is very good. Especially when compared to the handling of the previous Mondeo model.

When using cruise control it's even quite fuel efficient.

The interior and boot space is big enough for a family, even when you're going on a holiday.

2003 Ford Mondeo TDCI Estate TDCI

Summary:

Very good

Faults:

Rear Brake Calliper at 120000 (both).Rear window screen washer pump 3 times. All replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

The only thing this car is missing is an automatic transmission. Airco, power windows, 7" navigation Europe, power seats, automatic lights, automatic wipers. The cars has 115 HP. It's a salesman version so teh seats are no to comfy.

Sorry. Ford wouldn't have done a warranty repair at 120k.

Check the country of origin - he's talking about kilometres not miles. 120,000 miles is 82,800 miles. And where does he say it was a Ford warranty claim?

-

General Comments:

The car is very good and there is still warranty on the car (two years unlimited mileage) and I had no other problems.

This Mondeo is the 115BHP version which is very vivid and quick.

It is fitted with the top of the range navigation system (7") and I got addicht to it.

2002 Ford Mondeo Special Edition 2.0 TDCI

Summary:

Bad driving, fast, but stalls

Faults:

Engine stalls.

Starting the car, and switching between forward and backward is a nightmare, stalls all the time.

Lights break often.

General Comments:

Car is speedy.

Plenty of space, but drives like a nightmare due to the stalling problems.

According to Ford this is normal, they removed the cable for the gas pedal, prefer old fashioned working systems.

The new Ford Mondeo is rubbish; it stalls and cuts out when changing gear. Have nearly crashed the car twice, not a nice feeling when you drive along and lose power steering and power assisted brakea, but Ford do not care.

1994 Ford Mondeo GLX 1.8 turbo diesel

Faults:

Right electric window can't be controlled by passenger. Switch replaced. Tires must be changed too often. (I guess I take too many corners). A little hard to start in the winter. Not solved by dealer who couldn't find any problem. Right door speaker broken. Replaced. Some dashboard lights failed. Replaced.

Never had any problems with my Japanese car!!

General Comments:

Comfortable car, big storage capacity.

Nice driving but a slow car when you want to pass (slower) cars, but this comes with the diesel engine.

Ford probably makes great cars, but this one could be better. Reliability of some parts is ...
