1998 Jeep Cherokee Rubicon 4.0 litre

Summary:

Great!

Faults:

The ABS-system was tuned-up after a recall of Daimler-Chrysler: it was fixed under warranty of the manufacturer.

The battery is replaced at 75,000 miles. At approx. the same time the ring of the after part of the exhaust broke: replacing was costly, due to rust. The airconditioning compressor broke down at 100,000 miles; at that fix the complete system was fitted up and also filled with new R134A. At 115,000 miles the -original!- front discs were replaced. Not bad at all for a car of nearly 6 years of age!

General Comments:

The Cherokee is handsome on it self and is handy too. Not to big and it has space enough for a family. It pleases as a towing-vehicle as well. In quite heavy terrain it performs well. At all: a great car with 'the right looks'.

2002 Jeep Cherokee Sport Plus 2.5 CRD

Summary:

The new Cherokee, a big step in the right direction

Faults:

No problems at all, just had the oil changed at 20.000 and 40.000 km and that is it.

So instead of seeing the dealer 3 to 4 times a year with all kind of problems (with my old Cherokee), I only see them every 9 months for an oil change.

General Comments:

After owning a 1998 Cherokee diesel, we bought the new Cherokee CRD.

The 2002 Cherokee is a totally different SUV compared to the 1998 model, it is a much smoother drive and the new engine is much more powerfulll.

Also the 2002 model is much bigger, you sit much higher and this gives you a better look on the road ahead.

The 2002 model drives in a straight line without any corrections and it corners much better.

To be honest, my wife never liked to drive the 1998 Cherokee, but she loves to drive the new one and so do I.

1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4.0L

Summary:

A comfortable and indestructible volume-mover

Faults:

The paint job on the hood and roof is peeling off.

Power antenna does not function properly.

Driver's seat leather is tearing at the seams.

Fuel pump is not functioning properly.

Central door-locking mechanism only locks and unlocks three of the five doors.

General Comments:

This Cherokee has a wonderful engine with enough punch to out-accelerate almost anyone at the traffic lights.

The fuel consumption is hefty.

Driving through snowy mountain passes and down muddy trails is a dream.

My car doesn't start 2 out of 3 times. It sounds like it wants to start, but it takes forever. My catalytic converter rattles. Does anyone else have the same problems???
