1994 Peugeot 405 GLX 1.9D

Good car; cheap and reliable

Climate ventilator was dead after few km; has been changed (3 bolts to remove only).

Starter motor was out after 30.000 km, and has been changed (also easy to change)

Glow sparkles were also off after 30.000 km.

Had to put grease on the gear box command after 40.000 kms because sometimes it ran from fifth gear to fourth (looks like working now).

Had to do something to the hand brake cable at 42.000 km to strengthen the bolt to get more grip.

General Comments:

The car is very reliable for its age, despite minor failures on equipment. You can drive very long distances without any problems with an average consumption of 7.5 liters diesel on highways. But in mountain conditions, the motor is not economical at all; 10 liters at least.

Start very good also in winter conditions, and drives very well in snow thanks to its front drive.

The only weak point is that the car is not comfortable; the seats are too hard, and the car sounds at high speed like a boiling pan.

Anyway, cheap to use and reliable.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

1988 Peugeot 405 GL 1.6

A good car for a few bucks

Whole exhaust-pipe had to be replaced last month.

Boot leaks water on the left side, don't know where it comes from, but I need to fix this ASAP because I want to use the boot badly.

Car starts bad, checked the carb, nothing wrong with it. I know old Peugeot 405's (and other models) have got starting problems. After a couple of minutes it runs perfect without any problems!

Had to buy new headlight units ($50 a piece.. new)

Heater-fan died of shortage or something. Had to replace that one too.

General Comments:

This car is quite quick compared to my Ford Escort 1.4 :)

It's a nice car, the steering is a bit heavy but the car steers great!

If I want to buy another Peugeot it must be a newer model like the 306 Sedan or the 406 Coupe. No more old crap, I hate the starting problem.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

One last message of me ; if anyone knows how to fix the boot-leakage, please tell me so in a comment on my review. I think water slips past the left rear-lights unit...
