1992 Renault 21 gtl 1.7

Summary:

It is a reliable low costs car

Faults:

The normal stuff like tires, exhaust, bearings.

I also replaced the sub-frame, cooling-system.

Electric window fails.

Electric central door-locking not OK.

A typical sound when driving higher speed (like wind into the radiator-fan).

General Comments:

It is a very reliable car.

Low costs.

It's very efficient driving (e.g. 1 litre pro 17 km fuel (Euro95) ) .

Comfortable car.

Nice looking after all these years (little corrosive parts in the back-right mudguard)

1992 Renault 21 Nevada GTS manager 2.2 petrol

Summary:

Nice roomy, fast car, but very expensive to run

Faults:

The dynamo was revised recently.

The starter motor was revised recently.

Normal wear and tear items, e.g. exhaust.

Clutch has been replaces three times during the life of the car.

Steering is dodgy.

Leaks oil from a seals behind the fly-wheel at about 4 liters per 2 months.

Electric windows don't open. Replaced some of the motors.

General Comments:

Great fun to drive, really has a lot of power and grip.

The GTS manager has almost all the option so it's very luxurious with powerstearing, electric windows, central locking, great seats.

If you want to move and don't want to hire a big lorry, get one of these, it has an amazing amount of space in the boot, even for a stationwagon.

Too bad it is falling to bits now, but that is still three years later then expected.

As I got it for free, as a first car, I can't complain about the costs.

Road taxes are very high as it does way in at 1188 Kg.

Fuel economy is terrible at 10 Km/L if you are lucky (~28MPG)

1990 Renault 21 GTD 2.1 diesel

Summary:

Relaxed, big, smooth and cheap

Faults:

Dynamo at 240.000 km and at 360.000 km.

New battery at 330.000 km (the first battery lasted almost 10 years!).

Brake cylinder at 375.000 km.

A little rust.

General Comments:

When cold, the car is hard to handle, but warmed up it drives smooth as a white cloud in a blue sky.

The car is very relaxed. It feels a bit slow but it is quick in the city and fast enough on the highway.

Seats are good, space is plenty.

It is well built, parking incidents won't give you damage.
