1992 Acura Legend LS 3.2 V6

Summary:

World's best balance of ride, comfort, handling, safety, room, and style.. a BMW 5 series beater

Faults:

A/C compressor was not working when I bought the car. Still haven't fixed it.

RF strut rebuilt this year.

Replaced steering rack with rebuilt unit when I bought the car.

Shifts fairly hard- probably due to age and normal. Tolerable, though.

General Comments:

I bought this car even though the steering was shot: it was a Florida car and a bargain at $3800. After this repair and a total alignment, the car really was transformed.

The Legend is a great balance between comfort and handling: I'm a sports car enthusiast, but not hard core. Great road feel is combined with superb visibility and ergonomics.

I've driven 3 of the highly-regarded BMW 5 series sedans and honestly say I prefer the feel of my car to the Bimmer.

I understand that Acura ruined the car after 1995, but the huge following this car has is definitely warranted and deserved. I drove up for a test drive in a used Lexus LS 400 and the salesman looked at my car and said "Great Ride" and when I got back into it following the test, I had the same thoughts.

Other positives: Great styling (musclebound, but not overtly so). Classic lines and proportions. Functional large gauges.

Negatives: No CD player. One cheesy cup holder. Not much else, really.

1992 Acura Legend 3.2 Liter V6

Summary:

Great price, great car!

Faults:

The radiator hose sprung a leak at 166000 km.

First set of tyres wore out at 120000 km.

That's it.

General Comments:

For a large luxury sedan I was very impressed with the quickness and handling and steering response. When I first owned the car I was getting about 13km per liter (31mpg). Then around 80000-90000km, it decreased to 10 km per liter (23 mpg?). I sold it for $17,000 ($10,000) and bought an Acura RSX last April, which in a way I am sad about it. I would recommend this car to anyone.

1992 Acura Legend LS 3.2L V6

Summary:

A true Legend

Faults:

Had to replace the passenger side drive shaft 3 times, driver's side once.

Driver's side window died.

Passenger's side on the way out.

Speed sensor went.

Ignition switch is becoming a nuisance, turns off a lot.

Won't spin the tires from a standstill.

Lock solenoid turns on and off at random.

Horn went, replaced with a 160dB air horn.

Won't go faster than 150 :(

General Comments:

This car is a pretty good car, even though I've had trouble with it, it still starts up and goes 0-60 in 5.8sec so I can't complain too much.

The one thing I wish they had done with this car is make a rear wheel drive version, because understeer at 110mph is real scary.

All in all though, for a V6 and 200hp pulling 3500+ pounds, and going and handling like it does, I'd have to highly recommend this automobile to anyone.

1992 Acura Legend LS 6 cylinder

Summary:

A great car, still better than newer domestics

Faults:

Front drive shaft blew out at 100,100 miles.

Driver's side window rolls up slowly.

Cup holder sticks.

Squeaks in the rear passenger side disk brake.

Passenger side A/C fan will periodically rattle or click.

General Comments:

Despite some of the faults I have listed, this is a great car. I bought it as a car to get around town in, to put about 12,000 miles per year on, and it has performed better than I expected.

The performance and comfort of this car is exceptional. I did have to replace the front differential, which did cost more than I had anticipated, but other than that, this car performs better than some brand new cars that I have had before. I often will get comments from those who see the car or who I give rides to, that it seems like it is a one or two year old car.

From what I have read on the Internet, this will continue to be a reliable car, as long as I keep up my regular maintenance.

A couple of people have commented on the drivers window slow moving or chattering. This is common with many Honda products. The window seal is made of rubber that tends to stick after a while. I had the problem with an older Accord EXR that caused the window to roll up out of line and created road noise etc. Thinking I had to lay out a few hundred on a repair, the local Honda dealer simply sprayed a lubricant silicone type spray in the seal areas and I drove it four more years without a problem.
