1995 Acura Legend L 3.2 liter V6

Summary:

A real quality sleeper in an upscale sedan

Faults:

Replaced driver's window motor.

Replaced factory Bose trunk-mounted 6-CD player.

General Comments:

This car has been utterly reliable for us for more than 12 years.

It is deceptively quick and neutral-handling for a front-driver, and its 112" wheelbase and large trunk make for smooth highway cruising and plenty of room for family and stuff.

The interior is well-thought out, the ergonomics Honda-proof, the seats comfortable, and the Bose sound system first-class.

I've done nothing but follow routine maintenance, and have found our local Acura dealer to be fast, fair, and knowledgeable.

I would recommend this car without hesitation. At current prices, it is indeed a bargain, and with proper maintenance, it will run 250-300K miles without needing major work done.

1995 Acura Legend LS 3.2 V6

Summary:

For the money you can't beat it

Faults:

The car mostly sat the time I've owned her, and she's been babied. Just usual maintenance was done.

There was a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) master cylinder and bad clock spring. I also had to replace the ball joints (purchased a control arm kit) and axles (I don't know how they were miraculously held together), and the parts were surprisingly cheap.

Don't get into any accidents, because parts for the coupes are extremely hard to find, especially if you're looking for 94-95 specific.

General Comments:

I had my 9/10ths of my dream car (just lacked the 6spd) Black on black LS 95 coupe clean and gorgeous.

Twice I accidentally tried starting the car, once during start of my test drive, and another during early ownership.

The car is extremely quiet and it's 12 years old!!! The V6 is wonders but I do wish for more hush around 3000 RPM when accelerating from a stop. There's also a hard jerk when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd on light accelerating, but on hard accelerating, it would chirp the tires during the 1-2 shift... and this is an auto!!!

The car drives real superb, a bit stiff, more than my liking when hitting cracks or unavoidable irregularities with the 16" GS rims, but the 15" L or SE rims would solve all this, feels like a Cadillac. I love the GS rims, but I wanted a bit more style, but keeping with OEM look. My choices were the 17" Acura TL or CL Type S rims, and the Lexus IS300 rims. I settled for the Lexus set as they seem to look bigger than the Acura choices, even though they are the same size. Surpisingly the 17s ride just the same as the 16s. **Please note that the rims would have to be custom fitted or bored to proper spec to fit on the Legend hubs**

There is quite a bit of interest in the Japanese market with this car. I purchased a set of 1 piece headlights, which are superb with a set of 6000k HIDs (all custom fitted done by myself real easy) I also purchased a navigation console (Japanese had the good stuff, can you imagine they had reclining rear seats for the sedans??!!) The navigation console took time to install. It took me a while to figure out how to get that to install, remember JDM is RHD (right hand drive) so a bit of fabricating or tearing apart the metal piece and everything fit. I even used the climate control, which hooks right up to the factory harness in my car and functions, no splicing. Perfect!

The only major downfall with the car would be the fuel economy. Maybe in other cities people would get better, but even at factory rated 16 city and 22-24 hwy is pretty low. I always averaged 16-17, highest of 18mpg in NYC, but drove like granny would, mostly highway driving (trust me I barely drove in heavy traffic). It does make up for in its performance top speed of 149 (I hit 135 in my 93L coupe)

This car is perfect in just about every imaginable way. Timeless looks, features that even some cars today still lack. Some people actually think it's a 2000 or newer. But all good things must come to an end. Got into a accident under extreme weather conditions, the car did its job and I walked away (normal day after pains)

Will I buy another? Almost definitely, if only in the same condition.
