1996 Acura TL 2.5

Summary:

A great car, but a resale disappointment and junk CD player

Faults:

Both front windows developed scratch marks. Dealer replaced on warranty, but they scratched again.

Body sheet metal paper thin. Developed too many parking lot dents.

CD player failed and was replaced on warranty. Player again failed with same problem - chronic error message and failure to read CD. This is a pervasive problem with all similar Acuras, but company refuses to address obvious manufacturing defect.

Starter ridiculously expensive and rebuilt units are also absurdly priced (if you can find one).

Tires wear prematurely as wheels spin when starting from stop with wheels turned.

Premium gas is expensive.

Resale value has declined precipitously and is horrible compared to the Accord's relative resale value.

General Comments:

Car styling is fabulous and timeless. It is much better looking than newer models, which are really nondescript.

Performance is excellent even with the five cylinder 2.5.

Car is extremely reliable and relatively trouble free except for sheet metal and CD woes.

Summary:

Nice looking, comfortable, and reliable

Faults:

Driver's side window rolls up slowly.

Trunk leaks.

Transmission has locked in Park position occasionally.

General Comments:

Trunk leaks badly, even after replacing gaskets and adding silicone.

Has slight shimmy at 60 miles per hour, but not above or below that speed.

Tight turning radius considering length of car.

Average acceleration from stopped position, but does well at higher speeds.

Excellent air conditioning with quick cool down time and strong fan.

1996 Acura TL 2.5

Summary:

Overall, this is an inconspicuously spacious and luxurious automobile

Faults:

The automatic door lock system does not function properly.

The driver's side window periodically falls out of alignment, preventing the door from closing securely.

The gear shifter often sticks in the park position.

General Comments:

This car has been mechanically reliable so far.

Some of the control panel buttons are hard to find, especially at night. For example, the cruise control and fog light buttons are hidden behind the steering wheel.

The plain style and modest appearance of the exterior is contrasted by the actual comfortability and roomy interior.

1996 Acura TL 3.2 6

Summary:

Nice Car!

Faults:

Driver side lock had to be replaced, under warranty.

Transmission shimmies at 25K rpms, goes away when I have them change the Tranny Oil. Acura not sure why? Originally they told me it was my tires, but when I replaced them the shimmy was still there.

General Comments:

Over all awesome car.

1996 Acura TL 2.5

Faults:

The transmission blew all the fluid out on a hot day in the desert. Very unimpressed. The transmission is the weak point on this car, and very expensive. Dealer not interested in problems.

General Comments:

The transmission shifting is very harsh.

1996 Acura TL 2.5L

Summary:

So-so performance with overpriced looks

Faults:

Modulator in the ABS brake system went out at 55,000 miles, a mild repair at only $2,300.00!

Engine gears slip between 1st and second, and second and third occasionally.

General Comments:

Has pretty good pick-up and top-hand speed, yet the turning radius is as terrible as they come. An overall average performing car with second-to-none looks from a renowned manufacturer.
