2004 Audi A4 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Worst car ever... will never buy again

Faults:

TCM (Transmission Control Module) Very expensive and it's a common issue. 2nd that I am replacing. The cost is $2000.

Electrical problems, starter issues. Just not a reliable car to have.

Almost got me killed, because gears were slipping on the highway and reducing the speed of the car.

Audi is not willing to accept the problem, which is common with the A4 CVT transmission, and is ripping off customers for something that should have been recalled already.

General Comments:

Worst car ever. Please do not buy an AUDI... you will regret the experience, and the customer service you will get will terrify you.

Manual transmissions have been around since the 1800s. Automatic transmissions have been around since the 1930s. But mass produced CVTs are the new kids in town... and have had some teething problems. If you don't want to be a lab rat, then stick to products that are tried and true... it can save a lot of grief. Sometimes a process has growing pains, and collateral damage is part of it.

2004 Audi A4 Quattro

Summary:

Great in snow, windshield wiper mechanism/motor should have a recall

Faults:

Windshield wipers stopped while on the highway in the rain. Brought to dealer who said I needed a whole new wiper motor/mechanism $800. I saw online that others have had the same problem. Doesn't that usually require a recall if so many others have had the problem? It was a very dangerous and scary experience.

Now today I noticed the temperature gauge stayed at Cool even though the car was warmed up. Then the gauge suddenly went to the normal position about 30 minutes into the ride. Have to watch that.

General Comments:

My Audi A4 quattro is great in the snow and that is why I bought it. No major problems till about 50,000 miles.

2004 Audi A4 Quattro Sport 1.8T

Summary:

Not as good as the sales/marketing people state

Faults:

By 5000 miles the AC evaporator housing made all the HVAC air smell like a dirty athletic supporter. Dealer tried AirScept. Didn't really work. I have to remove the pollen filter and spray Lysol in the intake every few weeks. More often in the summer.

Transmission was replaced at 10k miles due too bad syncronizers. Took over 6 weeks for dealer to fix. New transmission still doesn't shift well, like other similar A4s I have driven.

At 15k miles a coolant flange leaked over 1/2 gallon in less that 1000 miles. Took another 2 weeks to fix.

At 28k miles a front window regulator broke. Dealer fixed in one day, but mis-aligned the door. How?...I don't know! Door doesn't open & close well.

Got fed-up & traded it for a Japanese car last week. You live and learn, then you go back to Honda.

General Comments:

Nice looking, good handling car with adequate power, comprised of poorly assembled from parts of questionable quality.

For a list price of over $30k I was expecting a world-class car with better reliability. Unfortunatly the car ended up being less reliable than my little brother's Hyundai Elantra!

Ingolstadt...you have lost me as a customer.

2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 1.8 Turbo 20V

Summary:

Nice looking, but very cranky car

Faults:

Not very good on fuel economy, eats tires, breakpads.

Clutch shakes when starts on first gear. Burns oil.

General Comments:

Overall is very comfy, real German handling, great look.

Would keep it after lease expires, but read mixed owners' reviews. It could start falling apart. Average time in service - once in 2 months. Very BAD Audi North America customer service - typical European.

This car has cost me more than 2000.00 dollars to fix since I have owned the car, and that is only two years. I bought the car with 35,000 miles, and since then I have put on 40,000 extra miles, for a total of 75,000 miles, and by the way, these repairs do not include having the timing belt replaced, which will cost another 1600.00 dollars.

I will definitely sell the car as soon as I get it back from the dealer. Yes that's right, the water pump went up, lucky for me that was covered in my extended warranty I purchased for 1200.00 dollars.
