2002 Audi TT 225 quattro ALMS 1.8 gasoline

Summary:

An elegant sports car for all seasons

Faults:

I bought the car recently and have driven it approx. 1,500 miles.

The instrument panel is missing pixels, making it difficult to read. I will send the unit to Module Masters for a fix.

The cargo cover rattles... easily remedied with some foam tape.

General Comments:

Compared to my naturally aspirated 1.8 liter Miata, this TT is fast. It reaches 0-60 mph 1.5 seconds faster.

The ride is comfortable and quiet for a sports car.

Handling is wonderful.

The shifting is almost perfect.

Beautiful interior, conservative and tastefully blended.

Impressive MPG.

Comfortable seats

American Le Mans Series model. Red Misano exterior with light silver interior. Very striking car.

Comfortable heated seats.

Quattro!!! Fantastic.

I have only had this car for a short time. Have only driven 1,500 miles so I can't comment on reliability. I hunted around and found this beautiful example for a great low price due to the car's age. Quattro is a great feature; now I can drive a sports car during the Winter. What can I say? I'm smitten with the car.

2002 Audi TT 225 hp 1.8

Summary:

Very classy, fast with an excellent grip on the road (4 wheel drive)

Faults:

I haven't had any problems whatsoever, certainly not any electrical problems as some owners mentioned. The car performs best on the high octane gasoline though, otherwise it might start shaking. Also, I'd recommend synthetic oil (not blended) as it has a sophisticated twin turbo engine.

General Comments:

It is a beautifully designed car: truly very classy.

The cup holders are in a very awkard place though, you have to be a contortionist to get to them. This is really the only design fault I think.

I would like to add that the TT 225 is not in fact a "Twin Turbo" system, but is in fact a 1.8L Inline 4, with a single K04 Turbo charger instead of the smaller, less efficient K03 Turbo on 180 hp 1.8T's, Dual Side mount intercoolers, and stronger rods... this car much like the K03 1.8T's can benefit greatly from a chip which can add up to 40hp and almost 100 torque!

2002 Audi TT 225 quattro 1.8T

Summary:

Few if any cars are made this bad

Faults:

ABS sensor, engine control module, gasket leaks, central locking, electrical shortages.

General Comments:

The car is slow for 225 HP.

Way too many problems for a 2-4 year old car, (speaking on general info about the TT).

It looks great, but it's way over valued.

Buy a new Mazda or MR2, and get a better built, less expensive car (save about $17000 and a lot of anger).

2002 Audi TT Roadster, 2WD, 180HP 1.8T

Summary:

A beatifully designed and capable roadster

Faults:

The side marker housing broke at 5K miles and left the side maker loose.

There was a recall on the ignition coils.

The covering of the interior storage lid in front of the gear shift has started to wear.

General Comments:

The 2002 model came in different varieties: front wheel drive or all wheel drive, 180HP or 220HP with the same basic 1.8 Turbo engine. Mine is the front wheel drive 180HP version. The performance is more "sporty" than "sports car".

Acceleration, breaking and cornering are good, but not outstanding.

The build quality is generally excellent and is holding up nicely.

The trunk size is remarkably big for its class, and good enough for weekend trips for two.

The seat positioning is pretty high, compared to some of its competitors.

The car has a power rear windshield, which is a great feature to increase comfort while driving top down at highway speeds.

The styling is a question of taste. I happen to like it, and it's not wearing off. But it's certainly a bit more radical than competitors.

The interior is a bit spartan, but very functional. Every bit is nicely designed to fit with the TT feel, with the exception of the standard VW/Audi light switch (my pet peeve).
