1997 BMW 3 Series 328is 2.8 liter 6 cylinder

Summary:

A terrific performer that represents what the BMW marque is all about

Faults:

I had very few problems with this car. The only issues were in regards to the emission equipment. The catalytic converter was replaced at 6,000 miles, and three oxygen sensors were replaced over the five years I owned the car, all under warranty.

General Comments:

I loved that car. I owned it for five years and had nothing but positive things to say. It was stylish, reliable, and performed very well. I replaced it with a new BMW. I was meticulous about maintenance and used nothing but synthetic products. I changed the oil myself every 4,500 myself which is about three times as often as what is recommended by the service indicator.

1997 BMW 3 Series 2.5L

Summary:

Don't be fooled by this car...it's a piece of junk

Faults:

The brakes have needed replaced twice in the last year. It has gone through two alternators as well. The car also consumes oil very quickly and it has horrible gas mileage. In addition, it needs a new muffler. The car sounds like a lawn mower. I just don't have any more money to put out on this car.

General Comments:

All my life, I have dreamed of owning a BMW. Now I dream of getting rid of this piece of junk. My old Toyota Corolla was super reliable. Getting rid of it was the worst mistake I ever made in my life. The dealer service is lousy. They never quote an accurate wait time. I dropped the car off at 9 am and was told it would be ready in 2 hours. I called back at 4 pm and they had not even started on it.

This is a nice looking car, but that's about it. I can't wait until I can trade it in. I think from now on, I am going to stick with Toyota.

Whenever you buy a used car you are buying somebody elses problems. Maybe you should've bought a brand new car and then see if it really is as bad as you say. I have never owned one, but this holds true with any brand of car you buy. You don't know how the other person maintained the car.

1997 BMW 3 Series 328i 2.8 six cylinder

Faults:

The electric sunroof got stuck but it was an easy item to fix with the manual override.

General Comments:

This is an excellent handling and performing road machine. My only regret is that I couldn't afford the M3, also I would have gotten the sports package even with the higher tire costs associated. The craftmanship is excellent. It is so nice to have a new BMW again after driving a couple of previously owned.
