2000 BMW 3 Series 323i 2.5L I6

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned!

Faults:

Fuel pump at 139,000 miles.

Tail light bulb burned out.

Required spark plugs at 133,000 miles.

Having some problems with the door locks.

General Comments:

This is a great car, and I would suggest it to anyone who can work on it themselves. If you have it serviced by a shop, it is not cheap to maintain, but since I can fix it myself, this BMW has been less expensive to fix than any of my previous American cars for many of the required maintenance items.

The car handles great, and will go anywhere I take it.

2000 BMW 3 Series 328i 2.8

Summary:

Nimble and fun to drive

Faults:

Mostly brittle plastic components for example.

Plastic piece in window regulator causes it to fail.

Plastic housing in the window lock/hazard button.

Plastic piece in the sunroof shade causes it to jam when broken.

Plastic radiator expansion tank will go between 60k to 100k miles, so watch for that (if you have to fill radiator fluid, that may be a sign ** another note; do not put tap water, use distilled water)

General Comments:

Pretty solid engine; nimble and quick like a BMW should be.. only issue I have is the "lifetime" tranny fluid...

I don't believe in that, so will change mine soon, but because of the design, it is hard to refill the tranny fluid, it has a side fill hole and no dipstick.. plus lots of confusion as to which fluid to use.

She has been a great car so far, and only left me stranded when my expansion tank cracked, overheating the car, but I shut her off immediately so as not to do permanent damage to her. For a 2000 she has a lot of features that some base model cars still don't get... higher cost of maintenance, but you expect that from German cars...

2000 BMW 3 Series 328i 2.8 inline-6

Summary:

German engineering power

Faults:

49.6k miles - Right when I got the car, it threw 11 codes, just because the mass air flow Sensor needed to be replaced.

49.6k miles - Window Regulators on the rear passenger, and passenger side needed to be replaced.

50.2k miles - All my weatherstripping for the windshield and sunroof needed replacing.

50.4k miles - Thermostat needed replacing.

50.6k miles - Clutch was slipping at 50k miles, not sure how bad the previous owner beat on it though, and needed a clutch alignment.

51.2k miles - BMW made control arm bushings horribly when it came out of the factory, and they tend to go at a low mileage.

General Comments:

The 328i is a great car. It performs well and still gets great gas mileage. With the right mods you can make the car, perform, look, and handle extremely well.

Even though I needed to put a good amount of money into the car right when I got it, the car is still a really good value. The engine is peppy and extremely reliable.

The only thing is would suggest is that BMW put a stronger clutch in the thing from the beginning. Other that that, the 328i is awesome and I love it.

2000 BMW 3 Series 328CI 2.8L

Summary:

Best car I have owned so far

Faults:

Well first off, the weather stripping on each side of the car is coming off. Many of my friends have an e46 3 series and they have the same problem.

The vanos issue truly bugs me. It cost $800 to fix it.

The ride comfort isn't that great. However this is probably because of the sport suspension.

It's a very nice car none the less, and I would recommend it to anyone. Nothing major has gone wrong with it. I just gotta be careful not to park near the curb, or else the bumper will scratch from the bottom.

General Comments:

Very quick, nice ride, looks amazing, high cost to keep running. However, you can do much of the work yourself (i.e. spark plugs, oil change, brakes, etc.)
