1988 BMW 7 Series 735i 3.5

Summary:

Wow

Faults:

Intermittent mileage and system readout. E32 hiccup.

General Comments:

Just purchased. We were aware the 735i was the BMW to locate. This one was a 1 owner with service records. Oddly the shop did recognize the dash issues years ago and did not act upon it.

Otherwise would throughout. No leaks. Added Freon and a thorough tune up.

Paint and body looks new. Interior very nice.

I expected some other repairs.

Solid driver.

There are issues, which given the age of the car, become a non-issue. If every single thing were tinkered with every time something not really vital failed, you'll end up spending copious amounts of money very often - and much of it just in labour getting to that part. If the vital parts of the car are doing fine; engine, gearbox, brakes, heating/aircon, main instrumentation, windows and locks, just enjoy the car.

1988 BMW 7 Series 735i 3.5

Summary:

Lots of small issues that are greatly overshadowed by the general excellence of this car

Faults:

Original alternator died at 240000 km.

Fan blade broke off at 300000 km, resulting vibrations sheared water pump shaft.

Recurring power seat back "twist".

Relay controlling signal lights faulty at 250000 km.

Front bearings worn out at 250000 km.

OBC intermittent failure at 260000 km.

Exhaust (not muffler) rusted through at 240000 km.

Very minor rust at door bottoms at 280000 km.

General Comments:

Incredibly comfortable car. The seats are likely to be the most comfortable furniture I'll ever own.

Very beautiful car both inside and out. The peak of BMW styling in my opinion.

Great on gas, considering it's a very big car with a huge 6 cylinder engine.

Handling is exceptional for a car of this size.

Impeccable engineering. Very very easy to work on, the car was designed to be easily repaired.

1988 BMW 7 Series 735i inline six

Summary:

A beautiful car to have

Faults:

Twisted seat.

Starter motor.

Air conditioning and climate control computer.

OBC lights.

Dashboard instrument lights.

Worn tires.

Muffler hole.

Some lower body rust.

General Comments:

Well, this is a fantastic car for handling with good acceleration. Gas mileage is not too bad - the same as my 6 cylinder Astro van, so acceptable.

All the things wrong with it have been fixed, but if you take it to a repair shop, they will charge a lot to work on these vehicles - I did everything myself except for the tires (and air conditioning - don't use it).

When it gets wet, the electronics seem to like to act up - usually just annoying false alarm dashboard bings telling me a parking light is out or something (never has been so far).

1988 BMW 7 Series 750iL 5.0 V12

Summary:

You wanted the best, you got the best!

Faults:

Oxygen sensor replaced.

Driveline support bearing replaced.

All fluids replaced.

Minor tune-up.

General Comments:

The car is very fast, handles like a sports car.

The car is very nice inside lots of room, seats are comfortable and the controls are easy to use.

The stock radio has been replaced with a new Kenwood, I left the stock speakers in and they sound great.

My plans are to upgrade the exhaust for a little better flow.

This car is not cheap to own, if you are looking for an inexpensive ride this is not the car for you.

I decided to buy a 750il because I love BMW's and the engine in this beast makes my heart pound V12 baby!

I do all my own work on the car. I studied this car for a whole year before I purchased one. I think BMW makes the best cars in the world.

The 750il is the only car I know of that you could race on Sunday, and take your son's basketball team to school on Monday. You get it all sports car, luxury car and mini van.

Overall the best damn car period!

Hey, my buddy has one, and I am his mechanic. And to my luck I have never worked on one of these cars or foreign cars, except Hondas and Toyotas. Please tell me what I can expect. email me at loverlova69@msn.com and let me know what's in store for me. Thanks.
