1990 Buick Park Avenue Ultra 3.8

Summary:

Perfect for anyone

Faults:

Aic conditioner blows only at the windshield and at your feet. Any air from the front vents is obsolete.

Driver's side rear-view mirror became dislodged.

Armrests on doors are coming loose (also a problem on my sister's Buick PA).

Back passengers windows can only be controlled by the driver.

General Comments:

This car is very quick, unfortunately it uses tons of gas.

Six passenger vehicle makes it very roomy and spacious.

Tons of leg room, hip room, and cargo space.

Hauls on long trips, and great for camping.

Acceleration is quite superb!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I had to rebuild the 440T transmission at about 110,000 miles. This may be due to abuse early in the life of the transmission. I inherited the car with 12,000 miles on it. I drove it home about 200 miles, and then discovered the transmission was 3 quarts low on fluid. From receipts I found in the glove box, this was apparently due to a faulty Jiffy Lube transmission service.

Other than that, the car has run fine. I just put a new paint job on it, and the leather seats are still in fine condition. I can't figure out if the power seat controls are wired up wrong or just weird by design. The recline and tilt rocker switches seem to do the same thing.

The rear air shock level sensor went bad and jacked the rear end a foot higher. After pricing a new sensor, available only from GM, I just disconnected the pump and tapped air out until the car sat level again.

On my last long freeway road trip, it averaged an astonishing 31 m.p.g., though normal freeway driving gets about 28 m.p.g. and typical commuting around 24 m.p.g. As long as you maintain a constant speed, it takes very little gas to keep this car rolling.

I just bought a 1990 Buick PA and am very happy with it so far. It is loaded and for the price I paid, you can't beat it. Much better than a monthly car payment. I would recommend this car to anyone.
