1994 Buick Regal Custom Sedan 3.8 V6

Summary:

Luxurious, gorgeous, dependable tank

Faults:

The AC didn't work when I got it.

Some wear on the interior.

The driver's side floor got flooded because of rusty holes underneath.

Turn signal bulb went out in winter time - normal.

Main breaking cylinder replaced.

Starter replaced.

Ignition control module replaced.

Stalling problems started that I could not resolve, which eventually made me scrap it.

General Comments:

When I got this car from my friend, it had about 190000 km. The body was very rusty with couple of holes which didn't bother me much.

This was my first car in North America, and my first American car.

At first it felt really huge, but soon I got used to it. In spite of its size, it was quite nimble, even in the city.

The luxury of driving it and just being in it is phenomenal! Smooth and powerful! The Buick's looks are great - aggressive and stylish. It was beautiful burgundy colour, though with rusty holes on 2 fenders.

The interior is even better! The flat classic dashboard from early 90s, the panels imitating wood, the handles - all that classic stuff. Incredibly spacious, both front and back seats, very comfortable. The heater was a beast, which was very appreciated in Montreal winters.

On the highway it is unstoppable. I went Montreal-Toronto with 5 of us and full trunk of baggage - she didn't even notice! 3.8L engine has fantastic power! Cruise control - and she floats like a dreadnought. If you need to pass someone - just slightly push the pedal and she flies like a Boeing 747! Parking in snow piles in Montreal was no problem - she got out of snow like a truck.

In the city traffic it is of course a bit heavier than smaller cars. It is built for highways for sure. The only time I was bothered on highway when I had a bump on an old tire!

I left it parked in snow in harsh Quebec winter for three weeks. When I got back and started - it responded right away with welcoming calm roar. Engine sounds very reassuring.

About six months later I had to do basic tune up - plugs, fuel filter and wires. That improved overall performance and saved me gas. Apparently that was the first tune up in 200000 km.

Regular maintenance - oil change and brakes when it was time to.

The only negative thing was high gas consumption, especially in the city. About 15-16 l/100 km and 10 l /100 km on highway. Which is normal for the engine this size, but sensitive for my pocket.

Unfortunately some electrical problem started causing stalling. My mechanic tried couple of tricks and gave up on it, advising me to change a car. I didn't have money to invest in this unknown problem and didn't see much sense in it, and when it stopped running at all I sold it for parts.

Now I'm looking for another car, and I am afraid that with the budget I have, I might end up with an equally old or even older car, but with some new unknown to me problems...

For the sake of variety, I want to try another model, but am very tempted to find a Buick again! I loved it so much!

1994 Buick Regal Limited 3.8

Summary:

Great used vehicle

Faults:

Only things that have gone wrong so far is I had to replace the alternator, time crank, and oil changes.

General Comments:

Bought the car for 1500 bucks, and have put in 500 in repairs.

This car will start in -40C without being plugged in. Still has a good bit of get up and go to pass cars, and is rather comfortable.

Brilliant car, and I would buy a new/used Buick anytime.
