1998 Buick Regal LS

Summary:

Great car. I would buy another one

Faults:

Replaced starter (under warranty) around 70,000. They were shocked at how the wires were melted inside the steering wheel column.

Rear right power switch broken at around 95K.

Oil leak fixed at 80K.

General Comments:

Love this car. It is very comfortable and has great head and leg room.

Has been very reliable. I would drive it cross country with no reservations.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

1998 Buick Regal LS with GS Options 3.4

Summary:

Fun car, but costly maintenance

Faults:

Overall I love the Regal, but I would question myself before I bought another one. I have had no major problems till about 60,000 mile mark. Within the last half a year I have had the starter replace. My oil pan gasket had to be replaced which the mechanic thought was very odd for a low mileage car. I just recently had to get the relay and iginition switch, which were $200 total, get replaced. I believe I have spent at least $700 dollars in repairs in the small amount of time.

General Comments:

The car handles great. It is very sporty looking and very fun to drive. Leather seats are very comfortable except on very long rides. I would recommend someone to buy one if they don't mind spending out money to get a few costly problems fixed.

I own a 98 Buick Regal and just brought it in to have a tune up. The battery was replaced, spark plugs, etc. but the rad flush was delayed as their machine was out of order. The question I have is, when I brought the car in, it had the heater working and now it is not! I was told this is common in Buicks where the hoses to the air conditioner, etc. gets blocked with hair, fuzz, etd. I'm looking at a very costly 8 hour mechanic job. Does the above sound right to you as a "coincidence" when in the shop, or do you feel as I do something was done which caused the blockage? I'm scheduled for a rad flush early this coming week and hopeful this will fix the problem. What do you think?

1998 Buick Regal LS 3.8

Summary:

Luxury, Power and Reliability

Faults:

One of the rear power windows never worked.

The cruise control & temperature control blower motor stop working sometimes. I think it may be the body module. I work at a garage so it shouldn't be too much.

I needed to replace the Transmision filter when I first got it, but that's normal for these cars and should be done every 35,000 miles or so. It only cost $65.

General Comments:

In General, I'm very pleased with this car. it's a sharp looking car. The 3.8 V6 is rated at about 200 horse power, and is more than enough. It's comfortable, and great on long trips, although it is a bit of a gas hog.

I work at garage and rarely see these cars come in with any problems. That's one of the reasons I bought it.

I got mine for about $11,500 with 36,000 miles on it. For that price there isn't much out there that's as reliable and as nice.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I too have a 1998Buick Regal LS now the cruse control and temperature blower will not work, if the body module is the problem, let me know and how much.

Did anyone ever figure out how to permanently resolve the problem with the cruise control and blower motor with the 1998 Buick Regal? I too have a 1998 Buick Regal. One more thing I've noticed that can be dangerous: When the blower motor and cruise control cease to function, the "auto on" headlights cut out as well, leaving me literally "in the dark" until I manually turn on the headlights. The other thing I noticed is that the dash lights are INCREDIBLY bright when this occurs. I've been able to fix these problems from time to time by turning the ignition quickly while waiting at a traffic light w/o cutting the car off. I know it sounds very strange, but 50% of the time, the problem's fixed.

I have 98 regal with aluminim wheels. I boughtit about 4 years ago and the air leaks out around the valve stems. I had it in the tire shop many times. They would keep putting new stems in with sealer around them, but that would only last 3to 5 months. I resorted to tire sealer. That last a little longer. So now what can I do?
