1989 Buick Skyhawk Base 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great little car, but not without its quirks!

Faults:

Alternator.

Power steering pump.

Power steering hose blew three times.

Radiator hose.

A/C compressor kicked the bucket a couple years ago.

Exhaust system twice.

Cigarette lighter died.

Some rust around the body, but all surface rust (what else can you expect for a car this old?)

General Comments:

Overall, it's been a great little car to have. My complaints are that it's very small, and quite underpowered. This car does not like hills. When we bought the car, the interior looked brand new. It had very low miles, the A/C worked, the seats looked like they had never been sat in, dashboard was not cracked or anything, it still had the original can of touch-up paint in the glove compartment.

Over the years, it's had to have a few things replaced. The biggest issue with this car has been the power steering. We've replaced the hose 3 times, and the pump once, and it still makes noise and drops fluid. These cars (along with its sister cars the Pontiac Sunbird, Chevrolet Cavalier, and Cadillac Cimarron) have been known to have this problem.

It really has been a wonderfully reliable car. Very economical.

1989 Buick Skyhawk 2.5 Liter

Summary:

Nice car for the money.

Faults:

Headliner is coming down bad.

Passenger side mirror is broken.

Only one radio speaker works. The rest are blew out.

General Comments:

The car is very comfortable and is pretty quick for a four cylinder.

This is my first GM car and I would consider buying another one. You can't beat GM.

1989 Buick Skyhawk 2.0

Summary:

Any Geo metro could beat this car in a race, without a person driving it

Faults:

Everything, The timing belt, fuel injectors, Gaskets, pretty much the whole car its self..

General Comments:

I would never buy this car. This is the worst car I ever owned.. The letters fell off the back to make it spell Buk Hawk. so I call it that now.

I had a buick skyhawk in and around the 1985 to 1990 time frame. It was a joke, the car cost around 12K new, and I think GM paid about 15K dollars in repair.

The paint, electrical system, power and all around quality was poor to say the least.

Buk hawk -- pretty funny.

I had an 89 SE. I replaced the alternator and the shocks and struts. The wheels were plastic coated and leaked so I replaced them. Eventually installed an aftermarket stereo. The engine had a tick in it when I bought it and eventually blew. Replaced it. Rolled the car and had it fixed. I wish I still owned it. But I am buying another one. They are fairly easy to work on, get great mileage and are a blast to drive.

1989 Buick Skyhawk 2.0 TBI

Summary:

Not bad for $300

Faults:

New alternator.

New battery.

Serpentine belt fell off.

Seat belts too loose.

Dashboard misshapen.

Roof fabric hanging down.

Serious stains on carpet.

Replaced overflow tank for radiator.

New heater core.

When bought 11/02 it had 3inches of water sitting in the drivers side floor board.

General Comments:

Well, other than the problems I had when it was first bought this car has been much more than I expected.

It has very low mileage for an 89 and it handles very nicely.

Its comfortable to drive and it's a blast around sharp turns.

Definitely a blast around curves. May not have much power, but you can definitely out run pretty much anyone on a curvy road. I have an 86 model, owned it since 12/04 and still runs, can't complain for 500 bucks. Although with its awesome handling it hydroplanes badly.

I just bought a 1988 Skyhawk 2 door 2.0 litre auto; it's a blast and I only paid 500 for it.

I owned an 89 SE with the high output 2.0. It was a blast to drive. I am buying another one with the 5 speed. Mine had an automatic. I am getting it for $450.00.
