1985 Cadillac Brougham Fleetwood D'elegence HT4100 V8

Summary:

A pure pleasure to drive

Faults:

The alternator was not working properly, which caused strange noises from some of the other components to occur even when the key was not in the ignition.

General Comments:

I could not believe the impeccable condition this vehicle was in when I purchased it! The interior looks brand new and everything (power seats, antenna, reading lights, etc.) still works perfectly. As for the engine and its performance, I am impressed everytime I take it out for a spin. It has plenty of power and is one of the smoothest quietst rides I ever been in. I have heard some negative things about the HT4100, however I truly believe that it, like most other engines, will live a long and productive life if taken care of properly. This car is living proof of the quality I would expect from a Cadillac built before the 1990's.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Good luck with that HT4100 engine. They start and drive great in all types of weather because of the Digital Fuel Injection system. But even when well maintained they don't go too far over 100,000 miles before they either blow a headgasket or spin a main bearing. Just keep the GM seal tablets in it and maybe it will be OK. The engine may have been replaced already due to the mileage you bought it at. The replacement HT4100's usually have all the bugs worked out. I heard Jasper engines makes a great replacement HT4100.
