1990 Cadillac DeVille Sedan deVille 4.5 PFI V8

Summary:

This Car Has it All!

Faults:

I purchased this car knowing it needed major repairs as the previous owner had neglected it mechanically. The head gaskets were blown, and it ran very poorly. After a tune-up, having a valve job done, replacing the head gaskets, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, and radiator it still had a miss. It turned out the computer was sending a misfire around the engine. After having the fuel injectors removed and cleaned and replacing the ECM the car runs great! Since then I have replaced the catalytic converter and driver's door window motor. To top all this off the car was totaled out in 1998. The owner at that time hit a cow with the car and it was rebuilt. I have not spent a tremendous amount of money on this car as I did a lot of the labor myself. If you want a car that is a trooper, look at the 88-93 Cadillacs (4.5 or 4.9 V8). 87 and 88 models have the same appearance, but the 87 is the HT4100 that is prone to problems. Save yourself big money and if the car is overheating- stop the car and turn it off immediately!

General Comments:

This car is a fantastic car. Very comfortable. If at all possible get a GM shop manual. It will go into much more detail than the generic repair books. Also check with O'Reilly for parts. They are much cheaper than the dealer and almost always have a lifetime warranty. My brand new water pump with lifetime warranty cost me $59 and will do as well or better than the GM pump.

1990 Cadillac DeVille Sedan 4.5 Port Fuel Injection

Summary:

Magnificent freeway cruiser

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Comfortable smooth ride both highway or in town. Leather seating is very classy.

Great passing power when needed. Fuel economy not bad considering the size of the vehicle.

I am surprised that there is no adjustable lumbar support for the driver.

Reliable and easy to repair small items such as lamps that need replacement.

1990 Cadillac DeVille 4.5L V8

Summary:

This vehicle has all the comfort and power anyone would enjoy

Faults:

A few weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the starter went out. I was able to replace it myself for around $50.00.

General Comments:

This car is very quick with it's 4.5L V8.

The seats are very comfortable since they are all leather and the two front seats are power adjustable in 8 different positions.

The interior is very roomy in the front and rear, giving all passengers more than enough leg room.

The only thing I dislike about this car is the difficulty to see while backing up. The rear window is small which is good for privacy, but difficult for backing up. I fixed this problem by adding a backup sensor to the rear of the vehicle that beeps when an object is near. This feature was around $20.00 if you can install it yourself.

1990 Cadillac DeVille

Summary:

Luxury and very high performance set this apart from the others

Faults:

I just bought it today so...

I have noticed that, like the previous members comment, it idles rough like its not firing in one of the cylinders. But once you rev it up a bit it sounds fine. Listening under the hood you notice no rough idle, just normal humming.

The previous owner, in 126,000 miles replaced the brakes, 3 fuel injectors, the alternator, fan belt and the tires.

Sitting at a stop sign in gear, not moving with the brake on it seems to feel a little jerky, again like its not firing all of the cylinders. The previous owner did replace 3 of the eight injectors and the computer module has not been replaced or reset to let the computer know that the injectors are not all the same wear.

The drivers side, left arm rest is worn out and covered with duct tape and the drivers side, front windows button is missing and the window doesn't appear to work.

The stereo's rear, right speaker pops and crackles and the whole sound system sounds very weak and tinty.

The turn signals blink at odd intervals when initialized.

General Comments:

I bought the car today, used with 126,000 miles on it. Going from a Honda Civic to this is awesome to say the least. This car is very fast. I mean scary fast! It feels totally controllable though at hard acceleration and cruising speed.

My friends thought it was a brand new car when I pulled up at work. The car definitly holds it beauty.
