2007 Chevrolet Aveo

Summary:

Best buy for the money

Faults:

There is a problem with the throttle position sensor; you have to replace the whole throttle body sensor, for like 150.00 bucks. Talked to my mechanic and he said that's BS, just pull off the throttle body and clean good inside and out with carburetor cleaner.. He was right.. every time I get that code, I just pull it off, clean it and have no more problems.

General Comments:

This car has been GREAT, only problem is the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Other than that minor inconvenience, I have had no problems with this car.

I just changed the ceramic pads, mileage is 154000.00. Yes, still original pads, granted I am in sales, and there are a lot of highway miles, but still I am impressed.

I average around 36 MPG.

The car is a sled. It takes forever to get to 80, but hey, for 10900 bucks, what do you want, and three plus years of ZERO maintenance, other than oil changes and timing belts.

The throttle position sensor can be cleaned, and does not have to be replaced, so save 150.00 + labor; it's like 5 bolts holding it on.

Too bad GM couldn't build this car; they name plate it from Daewoo. The Koreans can build decent cars.. I would totally recommend this car as decent ride. A+ on repairs and general maintenance.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo 1.6L

Summary:

Great for my long commute, due to good gas mileage

Faults:

Engine would be "rocky" in the mornings, had to clean throttle body and throttle at 50000 miles.

Changed belt at dealer at 57000 miles, but after that got "rougher" rides, never quite smooth like before.

General Comments:

Overall pleased, get consistently 34-38 mpg with 120 miles/day and 80/20 % mix of hi way/city, after putting in a K&N filter.

Compared to the Lanos, the interior is pretty crappy, hatchback has problems latching and seems cheaper (have to really slam it to close) - overall seems cheaper than what in the first place (Lanos) used to be a cheap car.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Cdn Suzuki Swift + (5) 1.6 16 valves

Summary:

Inexpensive, a few initial bumps, but turning out to be a good car

Faults:

- Valve sealing problem at 48 000 (misfire code from cylinder 3, problems when about 15C, about 5 minutes after starting - rough while slowing to lights, about 60km/h roughness running, and slashing check engine light).

- Drivebelt tensioner noise/clacking at 45 000 (under electrical load).

- Radiator fan resistor failure at 40 000.

- Rotors/drums rough at 36 000 (needed to be turned - car was vibrating at 115km/h)

General Comments:

Yes, some problems, BUT the valve issue is a known issue for some of these cars (and covered under warranty).

Drives very smoothly over bumps. Lots of oversteer if you try to take turns quickly (good tires, and a +1 sizing helps immensely).

Good mileage - 36mpg at 130km/h... OK acceleration (quick shifting Asin Warner transmission is very good).

Blind spot partially hampered by pillar - get 'bubble' blind spot mirrors.

MP3 player/CD/Aux in is pretty good - not a lot of power, and speakers are marginal (easy upgrade).

Made it up to 50k - but numerous visits to the dealer...

So... 2 heads later, addressed valve sealing issue (first head was 'damaged', maybe an installation issue - ticked loudly at cold start up, silencing after 5 minutes). Had to get timing belt idler and tensioner replaced (noise/irregular regular clicking at idle from belt area of engine). Water pump bolts were stripped out, needing replacement.

A lot has been done under warranty - which has been a real trial of patience (as 'serious' work needs approval from technical experts before local technicians can do the work), but... all work was done without question.

Happy with it - but it needs to give me a solid 20k run before I start to consider it a reliable car.
