1995 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 Vortec

Summary:

The Blazer works well for its intended purpose, but needs more TLC than other vehicles in its class.

Faults:

The transmission had to be rebuilt at 127,000 miles.

The oil cooler lines blew out at 131,000 miles.

The alternator had to be replaced at 90,000 miles.

The fuel injection module had to be replaced at 100,000 miles.

The A/C compressor had to be replaced at 110,000 miles.

Both the radiator and water pump had to be replaced at 145,000 miles.

This vehicle has had five different recalls during its lifetime; None of the items replaced had given me problems.

General Comments:

With the exception of the transmission rebuild, I think the Blazer has held up very well considering almost daily use. I consider the components I replaced to be normal wear items.

The S10 Blazer isn't very comfortable for long trips, but works well off-road and is a good commuter due to its relatively small size.

1995 Chevrolet Blazer LS Vortec

Summary:

Tough

Faults:

I had do change the starter, which was rough because you have take off the transfer case to get to it. That's pretty much it, and new tires.

General Comments:

I got this Blazer for $2700, because my wife crashed her car. It had 150k on it, and we put over 50k on to it, with hardly any problems.

It's crazy, I took this Blazer through hell and back, mudding down trails, through fields, ponds where got it stuck up to the door in water, and it still ran like new.

The only thing I didn't like was the MPG, which wasn't that bad.

It got me hooked, so I bought another Blazer and sold this one, because it was pink, and it had over 200k LOL.

1995 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3

Summary:

No complaints, over 195,000 worry free dependable miles

Faults:

Remote oil filter line started to leak at 65,000 miles. Had it replaced and it hasn't leaked since. Odometer reading at time of writing (2-8-2005) : 196,443.

Power door lock actuator failed on July 22, 1995 (wedding day), covered by warranty and has not failed since.

No other problems. Battery failed at 6 years, but hey it's a battery they die.

General Comments:

I ordered my Blazer on December 4, 1994 and took possession on January 22, 1995. It has never let me down. I abuse my vehicles and this one is certainly bullet proof. It's quick off the line, largely due to the 200 HP 4.3 engine and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio with a locking differential. Can smoke most vehicles off the line. Top end is another story. It doesn't due much over 103 mph, must either be governed or a simple physics limitation. It has the aerodynamics of a brick. But I didn't purchase it for top end speed.

Seating is comfortable. The LT has leather and lumbar support. My only regret is that a sunroof was not an available option in 1995. Go figure!

I don't plan on replacing it until it gives up the ghost. Even though I abuse it, get it mired in mud up to its doors off roading, it shows no signs of slowing down, becoming weak or wearing out. When it does decide to go, I'm guessing it will be well beyond 225,000 miles.

Folks, general maintenance is the key to owning vehicles and keeping them problem free and dependable.

1995 Chevrolet Blazer S10 Vortec

Summary:

Hell on wheels?

Faults:

Since I purchased the vehicle, the rear wiper has never worked, nor can I get it to work.

There was a recall on the front wiper motor. The wipers will stick right in the middle of the windshield in pouring rain. Chevrolet replaced this part the first time, however, it continues to stick.

Front driver side locks won't work unless you manually lock and unlock it.

Wiper fluid hoses are cracked.

Door handles on outside of all doors are coming loose.

Alternator has been replaced.

There was apparently no catalytic converter on it when I bought it so I had to have one put on, and had the whole exhaust reworked at the same time. Although it didn't seem to help much because the fumes that come up into the car are nauseating. The teachers in the drop off line at my child's school cover their faces when they see me coming.

The EGR valve has been replaced so many times I've lost count. It's easy to tell when it needs to be replaced: you bring the vehicle to a complete stop and it continues to surge forward; or when you apply the brakes, there are none!

One of my brake lines was leaking brake fluid. When I came to a complete stop, I couldn't get it going again for a few minutes.

Air conditioning has suddenly quit blowing cold air.

Just had to replace the spider valve in the fuel injection system.

I have now had my transmission rebuilt twice. I have been without my Blazer for almost a month now. They still aren't able to figure out what the problem with it is. It won't go into first gear.

General Comments:

Good looking vehicle.

Other people with Blazers stop me all the time and ask me to sell them my chrome Nerf bars.

It had a lot of get up and go. Unfortunately, I think it got up and went.

My husband always complains about the big hump in the floor in the front passenger side. It's hard to stretch your legs out.

I would love this vehicle if it wasn't plagued with problems.

I own a 95 and have 273,120 some odd miles on it. I've done the regular routine maintenance on it and haven't had any problems with it. I am a mechanic and have worked on several of these blazers and every thing I've ever found wrong with any of them was brought on by neglect. May I add... from the sound of your posting you may need to find a new mechanic. Yours seems to need to make more money than he deserves or he needs an education.
