1997 Chevrolet Blazer LS

Summary:

Great vehicle

Faults:

Check engine light.

General Comments:

I've had a few Blazers. The "check engine light" comes on on all years and models, and has to do with the oil. If you notice that when the engine is at more than "idle", it will turn off. In that case, there is no problem but a minor design flaw.

I've never had a problem in over 420,000 miles on 2 Blazers. Just keep the maintenance up.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer LT V6 Vortec

Summary:

Never in a million years will I ever buy another Chevy

Faults:

Transmission went out at 110K.

Windshield wipers don't work about 1 out of 5 times I need to use them.

Rear windshield spray doesn't work.

AC doesn't work very well.

Heater is starting to work less.

Tears in seat.

Cheap plastic panel where radio / AC / 4WD popped off and won't stay on. Cheap plastic is starting to break all over the place.

Back seat window control doesn't work.

Makes a "gurgling" water sound - from heater core I think.

Key gets stuck in the ignition.

Fuel line got clogged and caused the car to idle at 50 mph.

Problems with the light in the back going on and off every time I hit a bump.

Check engine light comes on every once in a while for no apparent reason, and then goes off.

Had the stalling problem other people have mentioned.

In the winter it will often just not start. As if the fuel pump was frozen. Adding Heet and gas stabilizer helped this.

Idle kind of jumps. When at a stoplight, it kind of surges forward. So you have to keep your foot solidly on the brakes at all times.

General Comments:

When it runs, it runs great. However, frequent break downs are common. While the stereo moon roof, leather, and power are all very nice features, the abysmal performance and unreliability of the car seriously detract from it. Fortunately I've got a mechanic as a relative so I can always get it fixed for an honest price. I also take the train to work and live downtown, so I don't really need a car every day. If this was an every day commuter car, I could never have kept it this long.

It seems they spent all their development money in getting nice luxuries in the car, and then didn't have any money left for mechanical engineering in the design.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4x2 4-Door 4.3L 190 hp V6

Summary:

Has a lot of potential

Faults:

Seat wear, the rear wiper motor acts funny, and a small antifreeze leak.

General Comments:

This is my starter car, but I've driven plenty of vehicles. For a car with 165K miles on it, I drives exceptionally well. I even took it down a muddy dirt (4x2 model) track and it handled its business.

The engine sometimes acts funny, but past that it runs damn near perfect.

GM may not make the worlds greatest cars, but they nearly hit the mark with this one.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer LS

Summary:

Fairly good

Faults:

At 120k after only having the car one year I had to get the transmission replaced...$1600

At 135k had to replace the water pump...$100

At 140k had to replace manifold intake...$500.

General Comments:

All in all this has been a fairly good car... I love it.

I wish it was a 4x4 but other than that its been okay.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Summary:

Great

Faults:

Wipers work mostly, they are sort of weak (dry where I live so I don't really care).

The back hatch will not close because it was locked (fixed).

4x4 doesn't like to work (kinda crappy, but I live in a dry city so no real need)

General Comments:

I love my Blazer.

It was well taken care of.

Which is the key to a good SUV.

It is really fun to drive (I owned a car before it).

I paid a good price - well worth it.

Would buy one again.
