1998 Chevrolet Blazer ZR2 V6

Summary:

Not a very practical vehicle, but fun

Faults:

Numerous rock chips along rocker panel due to tire style and no mud flaps. Dealer offered to repaint it.

Paint on spare tire carrier didn't hold up well. Had to be repainted in less than a year. Dealer repainted.

Dome light flickered due to faulty rear hatch. Adjustment repaired it.

General Comments:

This vehicle is very underpowered when the electric fan turns on, which is accompanied by a noticeable roaring noise. The ride was acceptable for a 4x4 of this type. Interior held up well and layout was fine. I had received a lot of complements regarding the look and stance of it. I really liked the look and fell of this truck, but I would be concerned once they started getting some miles on them. I leased this vehicle and overall I thought the value was slightly overpriced, but acceptable if your willing to pay for the looks.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3

Summary:

A low performance, but high maintenance vehicle

Faults:

The brakes constantly produce a high pitch, metal to metal noise every time I apply pressure to the brake pedal. I have had the pads replaced prematurely a couple of times and I have had the rotors replaced as well with no satisfaction.

I had the transmission rebuilt at approximately 80,000 miles in 8/01 when the reverse went out on it. Again, I had it rebuilt in 3/04 with approximately 130,000 miles when it began slipping with erratic shift patterns. And then again in 7/04 when it did not want to shift from first to second. Now, it is 8/11 and I am being told once again, it needs to be rebuilt again due to the transmission not shifting up into overdrive. In each occurrence I used reputable companies to do the work. I am being told it could be a problem in the casing or with pressure. There is only one thing I do know for sure, I am getting rid of this vehicle asap and I will not buy another Chevrolet again.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer ZR2 V6

Summary:

This blazer is neat to look at, but a money pit!

Faults:

A year after I got this Blazer my water pump went out. A couple months later my transmission went out. About a year later my 4X4 wasn't working correctly. The blazer would shift into 4X4 LO by itself. After this happened a few times, I took it in and had to have the 4 wheel drive cable replaced. I recently put a new alternator in it. The windshield wipers have now quit working... they work randomly (usually don't work when it's raining). This has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Now I am leaking anti-freeze again.

General Comments:

Almost every week something small goes wrong with it. I have it serviced regularly, so it has been taken care of. I will never buy another Chevrolet again! I keep thinking that I will keep it and drive it because I have replaced most things in it, but things still keep going wrong!!

1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Summary:

Chevrolet need to try harder to compete with the foreign cars in my opinion

Faults:

1. Windshield wiper motor went out at 20,000 miles.

2. Gasoline indicator showed 1/2 full, car had no gas. It stopped suddenly, no warning.

3. Brake lights went out, not from fuse.

4. Tailgate latch wouldn't close.

5. Driver and passenger side seat levers broke 3 times each. Dealer said wouldn't pay for any further replacements.

6. Gas pedal makes rubbing sound, dealer mechanic can't figure out.

General Comments:

Thank God I bought an extended warranty, in spite of my husband's protests!

This is a very comfortable car for the driver and passenger. It does have a smooth ride, so the engine must be good. We keep up with oil changes.

I paid a $100 deductible for each item, and the warranty paid the rest. It has run out now, and I am holding my breath.

I am seriously thinking of getting another car before something major goes wrong.
