2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3

Summary:

Blazer - a reliability nightmare!

Faults:

Too many to mention.

Trans axle at 25K

Brake lines at 30K

Many trips to dealer on extended warranty

Heater core at 70K.

General Comments:

I've had it with Chevy's, no more. I bought a Venture Van and a Blazer, both new in 2000. Both are junk. Many problems with both, but the heater core diagnosis on the Blazer has set me over the edge. We have a Toyota Sienna van on order, and I will dump the Blazer as soon as it get fixed, again.

Chevrolet should go bankrupt!

Vehicle is well cared for and maintained. 54,000 miles and blocked heater core, new water pump and pivot arm (3 days in the shop with no transportation) may be the "final straw". I'm just waiting for the radiator or something else to go, since we don't know where the rust which clogged the heater core is from. Upper and lower ball joints (30,000 miles), due to be replaced again soon. Blazer used to ride so since, but now?? Chevy warranty: a joke. 3 years, 36,000 miles. Most people can't pay off their vehicles by then, and to add all the repairs to their monthly payment... time to go somewhere else. The only thing I like about Chevy anymore is the smooth ride when it's new.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LT

Faults:

Until 3 days ago, we have had no problems with our Blazer, but on April 8, 2004 it caught fire. My husband was backing out of a friends drive way and heard a loud pop. Next thing he knew there was smoke and flames coming out of the dashboard. Within 10 minutes the entire car was full of flames. The fire department was called to put it out. They said that the engine wasn't even affected and that the way the fire spread it appeared to be something electrical. I just wanted to make people aware that this could happen to them.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3 V6

Summary:

An overpriced jalopy

Faults:

Weather Strip on front window at 10,000 (Warranty), falling apart again at 60,000.

Rear Door Lock 10,000 (Warranty)

Passenger Seat Lock 10,000.

Door Hinges rusting at 20,000.

Fuel Sensor at 30,000 (still doesn't start right away without a full tank/told this was normal??)

High Pressure Oil Lines 45,000.

Wheel Bearings 45,000.

Ball Joints at 50,000.

Head Gasket replaced at 50,000.

Entire vehicle rattles and squeaks 40000-Today.

General Comments:

I bought the vehicle brand new because I wanted a smaller size SUV and my family always drove Chevrolet products. First new vehicle.

I have been very disappointed with the vehicle. I am always wondering what will go wrong next.

Not very comfortable. People who sit in the passenger front seat always complain. Suspension is stiff and causes entire vehicle to shake and vibrate.

Decent power and it handles OK. It also gets decent gas mileage (20 mpg). It is the right size for city use.

It cost too much money for all the mechanical problems that I have had with it.
