1986 Chevrolet C10 Silverado 5.0 (305) V8

Summary:

An awesome truck

Faults:

Valve cover gaskets needed to be replaced when purchased.

Choke thermostat went out a few months after purchase.

Distributor cap and rotor went out a few months after replacing the choke thermostat.

The distributor failed a few months ago, and was replaced with a distributor with vacuum advance, so none of that electronic stuff, which made this truck way more reliable.

General Comments:

This truck has been a very good vehicle, despite the repairs it needed. I use this truck as an everyday vehicle, and I love it. It is just a two wheel drive, but that doesn't bother me.

It has an 8 foot bed, which is good for hauling things, and even with my tool box in it, I still have plenty of space.

The interior has a few bad spots in the seat, and the door panels have a little sun fade on them, but it still looks good.

The seat is still very comfortable, even with the normal wear and tear on the driver's side, and I have a seat cover to make it look better.

I really like the rally wheels on this truck; it makes it stand out and look good.

The truck also has the sliding glass rear window, which is good for letting your truck air out, and still being able to lock it up. It also has a cargo lamp, which is good if you need to look for something in the tool box at night.

All in all, this is an awesome truck; I love it, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

1986 Chevrolet C10 Silverado 5.0 V8

Summary:

Great truck, an American classic

Faults:

Ac condenser had a hole in it.

Wiring block was rusted and needed to be replaced.

Pinion seal was leaking.

Oil pan leak.

I let it sit every winter, so rust doesn't get on it, so I don't blame it for the leaks.

General Comments:

It's been a great truck; very reliable with much less repairs needed than most vehicles require.

Mine is restored so it looks amazing. Gets 17mpg, which is better than my dad's 07. Doesn't have that much power though.

I'd definitely buy another.

1986 Chevrolet C10 Scottsdale 1/2 ton 305 V8

Summary:

It's a great truck and I love it!

Faults:

After owning it for a couple of months I had to have the motor rebuilt. Luckily it was comparatively cheap. only 800 dollars to have practically entire engine redone. (must note that it was a mechanic friend who did the work)

Electric choke on carburetor went south. after a few times having it flood out on me the carburetor was replaced with a rebuilt '76 model carburetor, and since it wasn't totally compatible I've got a manual choke on it now. Plan on replacing it with another '86 sometime before I decide to sell it.

Replaced the shocks.

Oil Pressure gauge didn't work.

Tailpipe needs to be replaced.

It has a new oil pump, water pump, engine thermometer, oil pressure gauge, starter.

Rebuilt motor/engine, transmission.

I plan on having the air conditioning redone and tires replaced.

Does have rust around windshield.

General Comments:

Interior looks great. Exterior looks great aside from some hail dings. Quick truck. Not a huge amount of power when it comes to climbing curbs, etc..., but it is only a 305. Decent gas mileage: about 15 mph. Great truck. I love it. It is the first I've owned that was all mine (I'm only 19) and I get a lot of compliments on it. I should be able to get most of what I've spent on it when I sell it.

I want a nice first truck. I want a truck with good style, decent gas mileage (I know that trucks aren't usually good with gas) and more than two seats. I've been looking and looking and it's hard with very little money. I'm asking for a recommendation for a truck. I like c10's and would like some advice.

Thank you

1986 Chevrolet C10 Base 350 V8

Summary:

A high performance beater

Faults:

The choke has a problem opening and closing, so if you don't drive it for a long period of time, it will have trouble starting.

Lots of rust has developed around the bottom of the doors and the front and rear fenders.

It tends to burn oil after long trips.

General Comments:

When I first bought the truck from a very old and decrepid man, he said it hadn't been driven in a year. Around that time it had trouble starting, and it stalled at times. Now, I've been driving it every day and its reliability gained quite a bit.

Recently, I have installed a Flow master exhaust, a K&N air filter, a Holly carbeurator and I have replaced all eight spark plugs.

I am going to take it to a body repair and get the rust and minor dents fixed.

Overall, it is a good truck and it can deliver incredible amounts of power from an old engine that sounds like a lawn mower.
