1993 Chevrolet C1500 4.3 V6

Summary:

Killer little work truck

Faults:

Usual issues any vehicle may have; tires, brakes, battery, etc...

General Comments:

Plain simple work truck. Cheap yet durable interior. No power windows or locks. Great work truck.

I will keep it until it disintegrates, then rebuild it.

One little complaint; the CRAPPY factory paint that year. Will re-paint with olive-drab paint ASAP.

1993 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado 5.0L

Summary:

Best investment in a truck I have ever made

Faults:

Replaced Starter at 75,000 miles.

Replaced alternator at 95,000 miles.

Replaced fuel filter at 75,000 miles.

Replaced Fuel sensor at 100,000 miles.

Replaced water pump & radiator at 110,000 miles.

Replaced muffler at 115,000 miles.

Bad Paint, began flaking and peeling on hood and roof at 60,000, had it repainted at 120,000.

Driver door does not shut well beginning at 120,000 miles. Have to slam shut several times before closing securely.

Leaks minimum amount of oil from rear main seal.

Not strong enough engine to pull large trailer.

General Comments:

This is a very reliable truck. I have owned since new.

Used to haul small camper trailer for several years with little effort.

Used to haul many loads of stuff for do-it-yourself home projects.

I paid $17,500 November 92, paid off the loan November '96 and No payments ever since. That makes it very hard to justify buying a new Truck.

1993 Chevrolet C1500 W/T 4.3 V6

Summary:

Excellent vehicle for a first car, or weekend work truck

Faults:

The alternator went out at 95000, other than that I have had no problems with it.

General Comments:

This is a great truck, except the gas mileage sucks really bad (17/21, worse than the 5.7 V8) and it's slow, but really all I needed for a first car.

This thing is a beast, very safe.

The truck looks mean in all silver.

How is it worse than the 5.7? Are you comparing it to newer models or something?

Or maybe it needed a tuneup.

17/21 MPG is not at all worse than the 350 V8. I think the 350 is rated at 13/18, and you're lucky to get it. 21 mpg for a gasoline full-size is admirable.

Was the pickup with the 5.7 going downhill with the engine off to get better than 17/21 mpg?
