1987 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe 350 5.7L

Summary:

Awesome car

Faults:

Really, the only thing that has gone wrong with the car, is the heater core.

Needed an exhaust and clutch slave cylinder, which I bought for it.

General Comments:

I bought the car for $400 in 2004.

Overall it was in good shape, had some dings in the one fender and a dent in the passenger side door, but it was one owner, garage kept and no rust, and it still had potential.

Things I've done to the car so far: Hedman headers, true dual-exhaust from headers back with Highflow cats and Thrush mufflers. Heater core, slave cylinder, performance clutch, Accel plugs, wires, coil, 3.73 posi gears, Holley 540 carb.

The car is super fast, it is really an awesome car. It's great having the T-tops off, cruising down the road, hearing the exhaust rumble. That feeling makes all the work worthwhile.

1987 Chevrolet Camaro LT 2.8L V6

Summary:

This car is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Faults:

When I purchased the car it sat for about 5 months then the owner ran it for a month. I put maybe 100 dollars into it so far, nothing major new spark plugs, and some other odds and ends. nothing really went on it yet (knock on wood)

General Comments:

It is a very good car, fast for a V6. cheaper to run than the V8, gets about 23 miles to the gallon. the exterior is immaculate, the interior is very good except there is a slash in the center console leather and a chip on the end of the dash, seats are clean, and the hatchback has a motor so you don't have to slam it down you just let it suck it down.

Just think, someday "awesome" will sound as hilariously outdated as "groovy" does now!

1987 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe 2.8L V6

Summary:

Awesome first car with great looks!

Faults:

Rough Body (not too bad, just needed minor paint and bondo).

The EGR Valve and PCV Valve were bad, it had trouble running.

The headliner sagged.

The hood lift supports were bad as were the hatchback ones.

Needed basic tune-up and maintenance.

It needed new rear shocks.

It needed various little parts (IE: new air filters (K&N :) ), vapor canister filter, etc.).

General Comments:

The car was a decent looker when I purchased it for $900. It needed new bondo and some paint to make it look very nice. It also needed new lower body stripe decals. I got them from a GM dealer. A little bit of caliper and drum brake paint and it looks awesome.

These Camaros handle beautifully! I've been told nothing else corners like one and they are right. Even though it has rear drum brakes, it still stops fairly quickly.

This 2.8L with various little performance things is very quick and it gets great gas mileage. It's very reliable and has enough displacement that it has a roar with a flowmaster 80 series or some type of muscle car muffler. I actually prefer it over the TPI cars just because I can get on the pedal and not watch my fuel gauge drop in 10 seconds. haha This car will be the last thing I get rid of if I have to get rid of it.

1987 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe 2.8L V6

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

When I purchased the vehicle the service engine soon light was on. Checking the codes revealed that transmission wasn't locking up, timing was not as it should be, along with various other problems. The car did have 160,000 miles on it. Most everything on the car seemed original too so it was bound to need some help. +

Had to replace certain steering parts.

New alternator at about 180,000 miles.

Windshield was cracked when purchased, so I got a new one.

General Comments:

The car is just sexy. Its red, has tinted windows and is just great to look at.

I am getting a new carpet and the seats done over, so it is going to feel like new.

Its only a V6, but it goes rather quickly without even having to step on the gas much.

This is my first car, I wouldn't trade it for a different model ever. I'm going to keep this car forever.
