1997 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 5.7

Summary:

I love my car!

Faults:

No major complaints so far.

General Comments:

I Love this car. It has been my dream car since I can remember. 5.7 liter, manual 6-speed transmission, T-tops, with a beautiful white paint finish. It's fast... but not fast enough. It turns heads everywhere I go. Chicks flock!! A perfect car to cruise in during the fall season.

I will take delivery of a 96 Z28 the middle of next week. I can barely contain my excitement. Having owned a Porsche 944 in the past, I was ready to step up to some real horsepower. Just pray the Camaro is not in the shop as often as the Porsche was.

1997 Chevrolet Camaro RS 3.8 V6

Summary:

I would buy another one tomorrow if I could

Faults:

Engine.

General Comments:

The one and only problem that I ever had with this car was the engine. When I purchased the vehicle everything sounded fine, but I must have been blinded by excitement because in less than 24 hours I realized that the motor was making a knocking sound. I went back and resigned for the extended warranty and then I turned the car over to them. They didn't mess around getting it fixed. They gave me a rental and placed a new engine in the car. After that, I replaced the plugs and wires once, and the check engine light came on one time.

Over all, this car was my pride and joy. I loved her very much. She was fun, fast, and very pretty. I would buy another one in heart beat and I do suggest this car to anyone looking to buy.

1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 5.7 liter

Summary:

This is a good representation of what a modern muscle car should be

Faults:

The driver's side power door lock and power window control housing came loose from the door panel.

There are some rattles from loose plastics in the dash, as well as one from a loose antenna.

The car may overheat if second fan is not manually turned on (to do this just turn the air conditioning on).

General Comments:

The Z-28 is an ultimate driving machine. Not only does it come from the factory with impressional horsepower, the Camaro's 350 cubic inch engine has been around for along time. With the advent of fuel injection the engine is more reliable and fuel efficient to meet modern standards.

Also, being able to modify the car with high performance aftermarket products makes owning the Z-28 heavenly.

1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.7 LT1

Summary:

A sad vehicle, from a low quality producer

Faults:

Where to start, where to start.

I ordered this car, (first mistake) apparently GM does not put quality into vehicles that are already sold.

The first thing was an oil leak, from the top of the engine (of all places).

Then after the dealer fixed that leak, the EGR valve failed.

Then the reverse switch in the 6 speed transmission died, along with several light bulbs...

The front seal on the rear axle began to leak, and the fuel pump failed, stranding us for a couple of hours.

After all of that, the air pump failed (the last straw).

When I confronted the service manager he said that these cars are prone to breakdowns, and that there was nothing they could do, but continue to fix the problems as they emerged.

It's nice to know that for 23K you can buy a vehicle that's prone to breakdowns, and has a warranty limited to the verge of them all!

General Comments:

I managed to dump this lemon at the end of the MFG warranty.

When I contacted the MFG customer service line they were of no use (a real waste of time, and oxygen)

Since then I've made the fantastic quality known, and changed a few minds that were thinking about buying a Camaro.

Never, never, NEVER order a vehicle, and never buy a Camaro. (free advice for those who will listen)

Hey, my name is Chris and I would like to say generally the Chevrolet Camaro is an extremely reliable car, I own three. One of which is a ninety seven Z-28 and have yet to have a problem. Along with that a ninety five which only had a problem with the radiator cap. So my advice is one car gone bad does not mean the Chevrolet Camaro deserves such a reputation. Thank you.
