1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24

Summary:

Sporty, but not worth the repairs

Faults:

Basic oil changes and routine check ups.

My car stalled once in 99, but it ended up being nothing. It started a minute after it stalled.

Starter was replaced due to a recall last year.

My cruse control stopped working last year.

I've been in 4 run-in's with my rear bumper and not a scratch on it. I even dented my brother's driver's side door on his 96 Nissan 200 SX ($1000 damage for him and none for me).

My battery died 4 times, but it was also 6 1/2 years old and just needed to be replaced at 69,000.

My check engine light was on for 2 months and my mechanic said it was nothing, well nothing turned into my most expensive problem. Plus, I had to go through 2 mechanic shops for them to find out the problem. Just to find out what's wrong with my car is going to cost me $268.00 and that doesn't fix anything. My Oil and Water Pump need to be replaced as well as my serpentine belt which is going to cost about 2,000 (1700 is just labor). My oil pump could be a cause of bad gas, but has a kit to fix so cheverolet knows that it's a problem.

General Comments:

Even with my most recent complaints and the few things that have come up I still like my cheverolet, especially my power windows, locks and sunroof.

If it wasn't for the oil and water pump issue I would still love my cheverolet.

Though I am debating on whether I'm just going to junk it and get another one or pay to have it fixed.

I have a 96 cavalier...lets just say its been in the shop 6 times and the price has never been under $200. I've been warned about gettin this car and the year range. I don't recommend buying one. and yes the check engine light was on on my car too for a while, but shut off on its own..who knows. I cannot stand this car and I want to trade it in...cute, but awful car.

Why don't you just fix it yourself? You could save the $1700. It's not that hard to replace the water pump or the oil pump. It just takes time.

I've had a '94 Cavalier since 2002, and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. It has the 3.1L and all the options of a Z24, but none of the badging. It's so vanilla, it's actually white - quite a sleeper. My only complaint is that it's a rust bucket. I had to drill a hole through the driver's side door and bolt the door shut because the latch mechanism was so rusted, but that's how much I love this car.

1994 Chevrolet Cavalier RS V6 3.1L

Summary:

Fast, good looking, reliable for a low price!

Faults:

Only the air conditioner screwed up buts that's not a problem for me.

General Comments:

This car is just fabulous.

When I start it in cold mornings it always starts at the first try.

The power that the V6 gives me under the gas pedal his something, even if it's a little bit costly on the gas.

The interior looks great! The seats are comfortable and gives me the support I need when I take the curves.

1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z-24 3.1

Summary:

For an older used car, Very fast

Faults:

Transmission replaced at 77,000 miles.

Heating unit only allows heat (no A/C) to blow through the panel vents.

General Comments:

I was surprised the power this car still had when I got it. Even now, it still takes off fast.

Haven't had any problems besides the transmission.

Put only high performance fluids into it (Premium gasoline as well).
