1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.4

Summary:

A good looking, peppy car

Faults:

The Rotors have to be replaced regularly.

The Engine Mount was replaced.

The Shocks were replaced.

General Comments:

This car has alright acceleration. It will beat a Honda Civic off the line with no problems.

GM should have put a little more thought into the sports model. It could have used a turbo.

The car does look pretty good though, it can turn heads if it is cleaned up and has a few accessories on it.

1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.4L Twin cam

Summary:

Very good car in all fields for the price

Faults:

The the other owners of the car had it replaced the clutch, the oil pump and the rear suspension.

The clutch was replaced at about 50 000km (I wonder was they did with it) and the oil pump and the suspension at about 70 000km.

But for my part, I've nerver had any problem with and I ask this car quite an effort sometimes, but still in his the rpm capability.

General Comments:

I really love this car for it's acceleration and it's look!

The engine gives you what you want when you ask for it. The amount of torque is it's strong point. 155 pounds/feet with 150 horsepowers are good numbers for the size of that car!

The interior is quite simple, but it does the job. The audio system (stock) is very good. You can turn the volume higher and it'll give a lot of bass for a standard audio system.

The seats are comfortable, but it is not a high class car, so don't expect to have a cough in that car. But compared to it's competitors, it is pretty good.

However, I think that the brakes are not so good. On icy surfaces or on wet asphalt, it is difficult to break sometimes. Maybe it is because the ABS system is coming in too fast.

So, in my opinion, this car is really worth it. Not too much expensive. Very good performance and quite a good reliability for my part. And if you give me the choice between an Honda Civic or an Acura Integra, it'll be easy. The z24 comes in first place for me!

1998 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 4 cylinder

Summary:

Not much fun, but a good buy!

Faults:

Spark plug wires have needed replacing--engine missed badly in humid conditions. This was covered by warranty, it is a known problem.

Car seems to have used up its first battery rather quickly.

Minor leak on front windshield seal.

General Comments:

I have spent less than $100 on this car in 3.5 years not counting oil changes. That's tough to beat.

It's not exactly a thrill to drive, but it has enough power to pass on the highway and the handling is solid and predictable. Has more low-end torque than most 4-cylinder cars.

Four adults fit quite comfortably--much better than a Protege or Corolla, for example.

The fold-down back seat is very convenient.

Are you serious when you say that a z-24 will beat a mustang GT???

You must mean one of those crappy V6 mustangs, or you must have some extensive modifications.

I also have a modified Z and it is quick, but we're comparing a grocery-getter to a muscle car. You are way off.

So how many V6 powered Camaros and Firebirds have beaten your Mustang GT?

"Actually I bet the cavalier can outperform a mustang"

There is no doubt that a z24 caviler could outperform a v6 mustang, just about anything can, but to say that it could beat a v8 is just nonsense. Yes the ol z-24 got some pretty decent power (test drove one and was fairly impressed) for the money, but there by no means a high performance super vehicle.
