2002 Chevrolet Cavalier z24 2.4

Summary:

AWESOME!

Faults:

Only the rear reverse lights wouldn't work on it, had to replace those at 82,500 ks.

General Comments:

Great car, its good on gas, its quick responsive, handles quickly, picks up speed fast, good shifting, sound of a champion, handles superb in winter, fwd is definitly handy in the winter, controls the same as if it were summer in the cold Canadian winters.

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Base 2.2 OHV

Summary:

Best economy car value out there

Faults:

I have owned the Cavalier since new, and the only thing I have done to it has been a front and rear brake job. I am very particular about maintenance and, if properly maintained, the Cavalier will last as long if not longer than any car on the road today. Parts are cheap and available and the car is easy to work on for do-it-yourselfers.

General Comments:

Over the past 20 years, I have owned three Cavaliers. Each one has gone over 150,000 trouble free miles, and I expect this one to be no different. My biggest complaint is the lack of support in the seats. On trips longer than an hour I begin to get lower back pain due to the lack of support. GM could have done a better job and put Saturn SL type seats in it. Cavalier LS seats from the local wrecking yard should eliminate this problem, as they are considerably nicer seats. The Cavalier has been very reliable and I highly recommend it to anyone on a budget who has to depend on their car.

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS 2.2 147hp

Summary:

Its okay, but no real resale value

Faults:

The car for the most part is a good average North American car.

Lots of electrical problems, blower motor resister board blows, first you loose fan 1 then you loose fan 2. If under warranty no problems just anoying. After warranty is over $25 part and $100 in labour to install it (or do it yourself.)

Power window motor in drivers door changed 3 times in 4 years. Drivers windows and front passenger windows will not work when temperature is below -5 Centigrade. Wiring replaced to power windows as well.

General Comments:

My 1990 Cavalier was better than my 2002 Cavalier. Otherwise its okay

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier VLX 2.2

Summary:

It's not bad, but overall I am disappointed

Faults:

Where do I start with the problems this car has had? After a trip in -40C weather I replaced the rack and pinion. The dealer installed a new one and then had to replace it right away again because the replacement was defective.

New Power steering pump replaced shortly after the rack.

Other repairs were: New O2 sensor, repair to emission control system, replaced door trim. Hubcaps repaired because they rattled.

New Heater fan switch installed.

Strut bearings re-lubricated numerous times.

ABS failed once.

Tires are holding up good, they are still the orginals.

Front Brake pads replaced at 60K.

Drivers seat is terrible. There was a bar that poked me in the lower back that put my legs to sleep. The dealer tried to fix it by stuffing foam in it. That just made it worse. Also replaced the seat back spring assembly.

The car seems to be getting more reliable as time progresses, but it has left a bad impression on me.

The GM dealer has been very good in the service and sales department to us.

General Comments:

I find the car is enjoyable to drive. It handles well. Has plenty of power and is actually fun to scoot around in. Gas mileage is good.

Unfortunately it has been in the shop about 15 times. Not good. I expected better than that. I owned an 89 Cavalier for 5 years and it was the best car I owned.

I find the car is very difficult to get in and out of due to being too low and me being a little bit overweight.

The car is very sharp to look at, Bright red with a spoiler.

Paint and exterior holding up great.
