2002 Chevrolet Impala Standard 3.4

Summary:

A lot of car for the money

Faults:

I have had no mechanical problems with this vehicle. The only real problem is with the CD player. After 2 years of use, it rarely plays a CD.

General Comments:

For its size, the car gets great gas mileage and has pretty good power.

It does have handling issues when driving above 65 mph.

The seats are comfortable, but could use more cushioning for more comfort.

2002 Chevrolet Impala LS Sedan 3.6L

Summary:

A great car with some major suspension problems

Faults:

I have replaced the alternator three times, at 10,000 miles, at 21,000 miles and at 34,000 miles.

The entire front sub chassis was replaced at 28,000 miles. The dealer indicated that most of the police Impalas had the sub chassis replaced. I have brought the vehicle back 3 additional times for front end clunk.

The radio was replaced twice. The radio controls the entire computer system in the vehicle.

General Comments:

I think that I might have a lemon.

The vehicle is extremely comfortable. On long trips, the seats are comfortable. The air conditioner and the heater are excellent.

Mileage on this vehicle is excellent. On a recent trip, we averaged 33 mpg at 70 mph.

The body, engine and transmission are excellent. I have experienced no problem with these major components.

There must be something else wrong, but the alternators. I don't know what, but something allows these alternators to burn up.

I have a 2003 Impala. The entire front sub chassis has also been replaced at 19,500 miles. There were defects in the welds, and I do not own a police edition, I own a LS.

The car has also been through three rack and pinion steering gear units in 30,000 miles.

It's a poorly made piece of crap. Chevrolet used to make products that held up well and lasted a long time. This is no longer the case. The GM dealer told me they had the front end sub frame and chassis problem on a third of these cars that were manufactured. The GM dealer also never fixed the steering under warranty properly. This dealership is also out of business now. Wonder why?

I am looking to trade this car, and like the Lincoln MKZ.

2002 Chevrolet Impala Sedan 3.4

Summary:

It's a decent priced sedan with room for improvement

Faults:

I have had a windshield wiper bolt break off for no apparent reason. My Impala just started leaking water when it rains from the front passenger side floor pan, just before 4th of July weekend. Has anyone else had this problem?

General Comments:

It's a good running car despite its flaws. I like the 3.4L. Gas mileage could be better. Overall, it's comfy and roomy. The doors could have a little more room for your arms.

2002 Chevrolet Impala 3.2L V6

Summary:

Great Car, Great Price

Faults:

To date, there has not been any problems to report. The car still drives like it's brand new.

General Comments:

This car has saved me about $90 in oil changes due to its engine oil life indicator. With my driving conditions, I usually can go 6 months without the light coming on telling me to change the oil. This is a real advantage and could save me a lot of money.

The car is a real pleasure to drive. You get more for your money with this car then when compared to the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.

This car is excellent on gas. I traveled from NJ to ME on a tank of gas. Considering it's size, I was quite surprised.

The trunk is huge. You could fit suitcases standing up in the trunk. Plenty of room luggage when traveling.

Passenger compartment roomy. There is plenty of leg room for everyone, including people sitting in the back seat.

The sound system in this car is excellent. This is usually the first thing I replace, but found no need to in this car. Plenty of bass and it cranks up pretty loud, just the way I like it.
