1985 Chevrolet K20 Truck Scottsdale 6.2L V8 FI diesel OHV

Summary:

It just keeps running!

Faults:

I've had to replace the alternator and batteries.

I've also replaced the radiator overflow container, since the original one had a crack down the side of it.

One battery cable has been replaced, since the covering wore off.

Paint is starting to peel off.

Replaced all four tires due to general wear.

General Comments:

With a little routine maintenance, this truck is running strong.

It's great in the winter snow with four wheel drive.

It's just hard to start on cold days.

It's a stiff ride, but the cabin has a lot of room.

1970 Chevrolet K20 Truck 350 V8 Gasoline

Summary:

A strong, reliable, no-nonsense 4WD truck

Faults:

Ignition points crashed shortly after I got it; I replaced them with electronic ignition.

Lockout hubs also failed shortly after I got it, replaced with Warn premium hubs.

Replaced the printed circuit on the instrument panel at 105,000 miles to correct an instrument light problem.

Alternator failed at 108,000 miles.

Master cylinder failed at 110,000 miles.

Driver's side of the seat is developing a depression, may replace in a year or two.

General Comments:

I purchased this truck in 1993 for $300. It needed a new battery and exhaust system immediately, which were readily available locally.

It had been a work truck and looked it, with a badly dented bed and faded paint. It had, however, received routine maintenance on schedule.

The engine, transmission, transfer case and rest of the drive line have never given any trouble. The electrics have also been reliable other than the alternator wearing out.

Once the brakes were serviced, it stopped straight, steady and quickly. The truck comfortably hauls pretty much anything I put in the bed.

Finally, I replaced the original split rim wheels with white spoke solid wheels, to make it easier to have tires mounted and balanced.
