1998 Chevrolet Malibu LS Sedan V6

Summary:

Friends don't let friends buy Malibus!

Faults:

RIP Malibu 1998-2008.

Can't even begin to describe the feeling I felt when the Malibu finally blew up! (P.S I was happy).

We've been through 1 transmission, 6 left taillight bulbs, 2 taillight boards, 2 head gaskets, fixed the "power" moonroof 2 times, 2 sets of rotors, a couple of fans for the A/C which NEVER made it to levels 1 & 2.

I can't even estimate how many gallons of antifreeze with the devil dexcool... etc, etc.

If you are reading up on Malibus to decide if you should buy one, I promise you a tandem bike will be more reliable and will probably get you to your destination faster.

The last straw for us was the time we were on the highway going 70, and the Malibu shut off all by itself for the THIRD time, and would not start again. Thankfully this time traffic was not bad.

The motor finally blew and for that we are thankful. I paid 1000.00 for the car almost 4 years ago and have put well over 3000.00 fixing it. I can swear that every post of things going wrong with this lemon happened to me to!!! RIP Malibu!

General Comments:

* Has made me cry at least 20 times

* Is about as reliable as a weatherman

* Cost me lots of money

* Is something I WILL never buy again in my life

I would be happy that you got 170K outta it. My 2003 went down the crapper at 51,000. Poor excuse for a car.

Ran for 177,000 miles and you are complaining. When you buy a car with over 100,000 miles you will have problems with it.

1998 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1L V6

Summary:

Awesome, reliable, nice riding car

Faults:

It had the water pump replaced, and leaking intake manifold gasket replaced ($$).

The brakes were done 2 times, and new tires, but this car was very reliable and sturdy.

General Comments:

If we had winds of around 120 km/hr (which happens often where I live), this car stood still at lights etc. and did not blow around. That is one of the reasons it needs brakes frequently, because it is a heavy fantastic riding car.

I would buy another one in a second. They handle well and are good on gas if you don't have a lead foot.

I think many people have put derogatory comments about the 1998 Malibu because they drive it hard... 5 fuel pumps?? Come on! After one, I'd figure it was my driving... I never had to replace even one fuel pump on my Malibu.

Words to think about - get some driving lessons to learn how to drive properly and not beat the hell out of your car or buy a V8 - then you'll know what gas consumption really is all about. You'll lose the lead foot in a hurry :)

1998 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1

Summary:

Just a light years behind Toyotas or Hondas

Faults:

Many things are just plain wrong with these cars. Intake gasket - transmission leak - A/C - brakes as I owned many cars same size, same use, I never spend so much on brakes.

The spring coil driver side just broke! For no reason. I knew then that was happening with many Malibus... The car starting to rust very early. Wheel aligment out of this world and... I am the only passenger, a 170lbs person!!!

Do not buy any of 1997-2004 Malibus; they're just lemons.

General Comments:

Not a reliable car - good on gas (and that's about it)

1998 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1

Summary:

Id rather ride a horse!

Faults:

Well I own a piece of crap Chevy malibu. The front brakes kept wearing uneven. I replaced both calibers that fixed the problem. after my car got hot it would not start for 30 to forty minutes. when it did start if I tried to drive it would bog out. checked fuel pressure it was only pushing 18 psi. it should be at 35 to 40 psi. Changed the fuel pump + filter runs great no more problems. but my alt went out, my power steering pump fell apart the pulley on it, the auto tension er, went out, the idle air control valve went bad, the main window switch went out. i have a 1990 Buick Lasabre in my yard I've never had a problem with it 200000 miles and still going it's a bit rusted but I think i'm,going to park the Chevy piece of poop.

General Comments:

Don't buy this car unless you like replacing parts as often as you change your underwear.
