1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Summary:

This car needs more reliable parts

Faults:

The links have been replaced three times on this Malibu LS.

The water pump always needs replacing.

This car has been back to the dealer every month since I have owned it.

I brought it January, 2003.

I brought my own brakes for this car to keep from running back and forth to the dealer.

General Comments:

This car stays at the dealer more than it does at my house.

It cost a lot of money to maintain this car.

I can't wait to be able to trade this car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

1999 Chevrolet Malibu LS

Summary:

I love my HOOPTY

Faults:

First thing I replaced were the tires... Big deal. Second was the water pump, Cheap. third were the brakes which has been the most expensive so far. And even that I think was my error because I should have kept up on them. I kept putting them off until they completely gave out. Other than that I had little things be fixed. The radio was replaced while it was still under warranty, the driver side window fell off the track,... that's pretty much it. The only thing I can say I do not like in this car is the Coolant. But it is the actual coolant, it has nothing to do with the car.

General Comments:

I LOVE my little car. I am verry rough on it and it is still going strong. I am VERY surprised on all the complaints on this car! I have over 60000 miles on it and its been great. Of course it's had parts replaced or repaired here an there, but over all for the price I got it for, I don't mind. I don't expect it to run like a Jag. or Mercedes after five years. Just like anything else time takes its toll. I keep up the maintenance and it's a happy camper. I put regular gas in it & regular oil with oil changes.

1999 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1

Summary:

Don't buy unless you have lots of money for repairs!

Faults:

Car leaked antifreeze, the intake gasket was the problem, very expensive.

This happened around 45,000 miles.

The battery went dead around 50,000 miles.

The brake pads have had to be replaces twice, with the rotors turned each time!

Now, the car is in again for a weird break noise. They have not figured out what it is yet!!

General Comments:

Please check out a website on the car you want to buy before you buy it!!

I wish I did. I have spent so much money on repairs on mine.

Actually you are really lucky. There are thousands of unhappy Malibu owners out there due to the high incidence of major repairs. Search the Internet and you will see what I mean. GM knew there was a problem with the coolant leaks, but refused to do anything about it. I'm glad you have enjoyed your Malibu, but we'll never purchase another GM car.

"There are thousands of unhappy Malibu owners out there due to the high incidence of major repairs."

And there are many many more happy owners of the Malibu. I love mine to death and have had no major problems.

I have a 99 with the 3.1L V6. I love this car!! Gets decent gas mileage, only major problem I have had was a faulty alternator. Everything else that you people are complaining about in here like brakes and belt and so on, that is all routine. It's a car, not everything will last forever. This was my first GM car and won't be my last!

You don't state your mileage, but wait till you need your intake gaskets replaced, I'll bet you will feel different.
