1988 Chevrolet S-10 2.5L

Summary:

Simply perfect

Faults:

Rusted through badly on the bed and cab corners.

Not many mechanical problems. In fact, I still have the original clutch in it.

Seats are in great shape, one small tear.

General Comments:

This little truck is one of the most reliable pickups you'll ever purchase.

Although it's a little four-banger, it handles and performs fairly well.

It has 147,000 miles on it and will easily make it another 150,000.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4x4 Sport 4.3 V6

Summary:

Overall a good truck for the money

Faults:

Ball joints.

Starter.

Alternator.

Broken door handles.

O-2 sensor.

Proportioning valve.

Fuel pump.

Directional/wiper control.

Gas tank.

Several trips to the body shop to repair rot.

General Comments:

I have had this truck for 8 years. Longer than any other vehicle. I now use it to get to work in the winter & plow my private road & driveway. It was the best money I ever spent. The repairs may sound like a lot, but if you consider its over 8 years its not bad. (I only spent 10k for it.) It's a top of the line 2 tone sport trail blazer with every possible option & everything works.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 2.5

Summary:

Highly reliable

Faults:

The starter went out.

The hydraulic clutch system began leaking badly and has now been completely replaced.

Both the heater and a/c do not work.

The rubber seals on both doors seem to have shrunk.

General Comments:

Not much power at all out of the little 4 cylinder engine. It has a hard time maintaining speed up hills. But, it's not bad for over 170,000 miles!

I use the truck daily to commute in. It drives well and never leaves me stranded.

Once the heater is fixed I'll have nothing to complain about, especially since I only paid $250 for it!

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Short Box 2.5 litre fuel injected

Summary:

A piece of junk

Faults:

Valve cover leaks oil.

Leaf springs broke.

Exhaust fell off (twice).

Cigarette lighter doesn't work.

Floor rusted out.

Frame rusted out and broke.

Burns more gas than my dad's 305.

General Comments:

The truck is nice looking and the 2.5 is strong. However the mechanical difficulties have turned me away from buying another S-10. I thought it was a good deal for $1700, but apparently I was wrong. My next vehicle will be full size and four wheel drive.

This is a very reliable truck I have 230,000 miles on my truck and it still runs great. There are a few minor fixtures that I do every now and then but, you must expect that from an old vehicle that has excessive miles on it.

I have a 1988 S-10. It was a 2.3, but it is a 350 now, and it is the fastest truck in my town.

UUHHH... to the guy at the top of the page. All Vehicles rust in those Yankee states or if you never wash it properly. If you think your truck sucks, try owning a Ford (especially a Ranger)

I just bought a 1988 S-10 for $1,500. It was an okay deal. I like the truck and it is good on gas, but, it is 2wd. I could not find a 4wd one in my state for under $5,000. The truck runs good and starts on the drop of a dime even in the brutal cold. But, it does have some rust. Mostly on the lower body right behind the doors.

Otherwise a pretty good truck. I just got it though... So, give me a little while with it and I will update this post.

So I bought a 88 S-10 last week. It has 103000 miles on it.

Apart from getting new fuses and a fuel filter it's very reliable. It gets amazing miles to the gallon LOL.

But I hope to have this truck till I run it in to the ground. I hope it will be in a very long time LOL.

Cheers to America.

1988 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab 4.3

Summary:

A damn good truck

Faults:

Water pump, radiator, fuel pump, drive shaft, distributor, brake pads (I bought the first pair at PEP Boys with a life time warranty), muffler, tail pipe, rear wheel bearings and seals, screws up rear brakes, front end parts to maintain allignment. I tow a 5000lb fifth wheel RV, so I don't think this is excessive maintenance. I do my own repairs except for alignment, tires and A/C.

General Comments:

It's been a damn fine truck, I use it for work and for vacations. I tow a fifth wheel to the mountains of Colorado from Texas with it.
