1991 Chevrolet S-10 tahoe short bed 2.8 V6

Summary:

This truck is the best example of reliability ever

Faults:

Seats were worn pretty badly when I bought them, but have not gotten worse since then.

I replaced the valve cover gaskets due to large amounts of oil leakage.

I replaced the starter.

The Headlight switch went bad causing my taillights to not work.

Both door handles have somewhat broke, but still open the door when manipulated correctly.

General Comments:

This truck has been an amazing first car.

I bought it because I had to have a car, and I am so glad I got this little truck.

Yeah there have been a couple problems, but over all, for the mileage, it drives incredibly. There are still some little problems like the doors sag, and minor rust spots that have not grown. There is one problem I cannot seem to get the engine to stop leaking oil so much. It loses about one quart per 1,000 miles. I am thinking of doing an engine rebuild to maybe remedy that.

As far as performance this truck is not very fast. It is a very small 6 cylinder so I never expected it to be great.

Gas mileage is decent when doing a lot of highway driving, but not so great in town. When I drove 60 mph and drove all highway (literally) I got 26 mpg. in town I get somewhere around 12-15 mpg. So it is quite a difference, but the big 20 gallon tank helps space out the fill ups.

Overall I love this truck and would buy another one if I found one with low miles so I would never have to buy another car!

1991 Chevrolet S-10 blazer 4x4 2-door sport 4.3L code z

Summary:

This blazer will never die!!!

Faults:

MAP sensor failed on a trip away from home (trust me---this vehicle will not run without a functioning MAP sensor!!!)

I have replaced the alternator, water pump, starter, radiator (all once--just routine maintenance)

I replaced the intake manifold due to a leaky gasket and the the water inlet heater nipple was so corroded in the manifold I decided to replace the entire manifold.

About six years ago the electronic dash began to fail and I had the unit re-soldered, and it has worked fine since!!

General Comments:

I love this blazer---it will never die!!!

My wife keeps bugging me to buy a new truck, and I keep telling her that the blazer is just getting broken in!!!

1991 Chevrolet S-10 tahoe 2.8

Summary:

A speed demon

Faults:

Speedometer quit working at 150000k.

The clutch line blew out, but this is it.

General Comments:

Fastest truck I have ever owned. The body is in horrible condition, but the truck is mechanically sound.

The engine is completely stock, but I am not afraid to race anyone because I haven't lost yet.

The truck is a great vehicle and its cheap to keep on the road. It is very reliable.

Would definitely buy another one.

1991 Chevrolet S-10 Truck 2.5

Summary:

I love the little 91 S-10

Faults:

Since 2000 I have replaced quite a lot of stuff.

I replaced most of the engine electronics including the computer.

I replaced the heater core.

Two batteries. All filters, fuel, etc..

Probably all of the vacuum hoses have been replaced along with the distributor and everything between there and the tips of the spark plugs.

I replaced the starter around 2004.

Recently I replaced the radiator and all the hoses.

At nearly 100,000 I replaced the tires (big deal, right). Circa 2006.

General Comments:

OK, so from all of the stuff I replaced you think I'm gonna complain. Wrong. I love this little truck. My little S-10 is cheap to maintain. Parts don't break the bank and the truck is a breeze to repair. I thought about selling it, but, I can't bring myself to do it.

The little 2.5 Iron Duke keeps on singing along and it's fairly decent on gas. From time to time I need to haul stuff and the little S-10 works like a dog.

I guess this is why I keep my little truck. It always, well almost always, starts. It will haul most anything that will fit in the bed, and who cares if it gets scratched.

I originally bought the truck for a big move I was making and I needed to haul a few loads. It was my intention to keep the truck for about six months and then sell it. That was seven years ago.

Before this truck I had a Nissan. The S-10 is the better work truck. It just feels like its more capable of working than the Nissan I had.

The 2.5 liter Iron Duke is noisy and slow, but, I don't care. It's has been very reliable and I don't give it a second thought. The bench seat is getting pretty worn out after sixteen years.

My truck does not have power steering. It's the plain short bed, base model. I love that about it. In fact, that's my favorite part. It has rubber floor mats so I can clean it out with a garden hose.
