1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab 4.3 Vortec

Summary:

It's starting to cost a lot to operate

Faults:

Drivers side seat adjuster at 50,000 km

Air conditioner clutch at 145,000 km

Tailgate cable brace at 150,000 km

Gas mileage lower than expected.

General Comments:

This truck has been a pleasure to own with only minor repairs and maintenance. Due to a collision it is currently having a flare-side fender replaced. There is significant rust on the inner fenders despite looking near pristine on the outside. GM galvanized these parts, but they are of poor quality.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4.3 Liter

Summary:

Great, reliable truck

Faults:

I seem to be getting water on the driver side floor. I could not find any holes in the floor and the water comes back every time I start the truck up. I would appreciate any advice anyone has.

It's not from the heater coil is it? I think that's on the passenger side...

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

A great truck to own!

Faults:

At 49120 miles the fuel pump went out.

General Comments:

I bought a 1999 S-10 about a year ago. Most people tell me I am crazy to buy a truck with a four cylinder in it, and that its good for nothing.

I just got back from Portsmouth, Virginia. I towed a car from there to Traverse City, Michigan. My truck handled outstandingly well. It dragged going up hills, but not as bad as you would think.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 4.3L

Summary:

Buy it, you will enjoy it if you go drive in the mud a lot!

Faults:

The radiator sprung a leak just after I bought it at about 91,000 miles.

The driver side seat handle was all ready broken, I used a wrench to adjust the seat.

The Compact Disc player skips.

The computer for the ABS went bad, that was the highest cost so far.

The driver seat could be extended for more room.

General Comments:

This is a great truck even for the miles it has on it. One feature I wish it had is the ability to turn off the Day Time Running lights, that did not change until 2000 models.

Very unhappy with the ZR2. On the 3rd set of lower ball joints, and the truck isn't off-road any. This truck is nickel and diming me to death. Only has 95,000. In addition to the ball joints replaced: Fuel gauge sending unit, idler arm, and water pump. Still need to fix driver side seat recliner handle and third door handle... Buyers Beware!

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4.3 Liter Gas

Summary:

A true delight!

Faults:

Brakes went out after 10,000 miles of driving.

Third door latch broke. Other owners say they have the same problem.

Passenger side seat adjust handle broke.

General Comments:

This is a very solid truck.

Towing large loads with the V6 is a breeze.

Very comfortable cabin.

Electronic features are very convenient.

Not a very economical commuter with V6, but power makes up for it.

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 2.2 4 Cylinder

Summary:

Low performance Ripoff

Faults:

I bought my Chevy because it had better torque than its Japanese counterparts, but this was only at the sacrifice of quality. The first thing was a faulty AC Delco battery, which was replaced. At 44,000 miles my truck needed a new clutch and transmission. Recently, I replaced: the leaking water pump, faulty alternator, clutch master cylinder and slave, and leaking valve gaskets. This truck, built off the s-10 Blazer platform, is the worst vehicle I have ever owned-and my check engine light just came on recently after following Chevy's service manual booklet-what a joke!

General Comments:

Don't buy this vehicle in any condition, you will regret it later.

The interior is moderately manufactured, but like many others my seat handles came clean off twice!

1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4.3 V6

Summary:

Disappointing dependability

Faults:

Bucket seat adjustment knob has broken twice. Front tires have worn out prematurely. The transmission overheated and blew transmission lines and the front seal on transmission.

Now, it's leaking antifreeze and the new serpentine belt I just had installed squeals when the engine is cool. I think the water pump is going out? I hear a bubbling sound from behind the dash upon aggressive acceleration. Maybe a heat core leak also?

General Comments:

I commute 40 miles to work daily. The truck has just topped 100,000 miles. I had an 1982 GMC S-15 for 8 years and traded it in with 160,000 miles and never had this much trouble with that truck, and I thought it was general knowledge that the vehicles of the early 80's poorly made? I will try an import with my next truck purchase.
