2000 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 4.3L V6

Summary:

You cannot kill this truck for I have tried unsuccessfully

Faults:

Due to lack of maintenance from previous owner I felt obligated to preform the actions do I did standard tune up and brake job.

Unexpected issues.

-front driver hub exploded at 103k

-when I bought the truck the vacuum line to the t-case was broke

-slight power drop off and I'm trying to track it down at the moment, but being lazy about it

-front skid plate shattered.

General Comments:

Excellent vehicle. reading what went wrong one would think wow I would never want that, but one must consider the use of the vehicle. this truck has seen daily off road use including recovery of disabled vehicles. many people tell stories of sucking up water and blown engines it is extremely hard to do with this vehicle. mine has been swamped numerous (water was seen entering the throttle body) times, but never failed to restart and run correctly. only modifications to this vehicle was the addition of a winch and brush guard, BFG mud terrains, and a k&N air filter in stock air box. This truck has never failed to recover a vehicle (including hummers). on road it gets as good a gas mileage as any light duty 4wd, but yet provides superior engine power. Due to the quality of design it goes though places where most other trucks can't or worst break. my 2000 ranger could never come close to this s-10 the ranger had 50k on it and was in the shop ever other day for engine problems. if your looking for a pretty truck that will get your grocerys and rides nice on the road this is your kinda vehicle, but its also the dedicated work horse comparable to the old military Willys jeeps.

2000 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 4.3L Vortec

Summary:

Very dependably and stylish

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

General Comments:

I had a 98 ZR2 and liked it enough to buy a 2000. I have never had a problem in the combined year and a half that I owned them. The only somewhat bad comment I have on it is the gas mileage (about 230 miles to the tank). This truck looks really good and handles well on and off road. I love this truck and would definitely recommend buying one.

Just an FYI, I have noticed that this truck has an efficient cruising speed of 55 mph. When I do that highway speed (obviously not on interstates, which I like to avoid) this truck can get 360-400 miles per gallon. When I do Interstates, I go 90 mph, and it can go as low as 190 miles per tank, ugh! I usually get 250 miles per tank in highway traffic.

I've gotten as bad as 16 in town and about 17 hauling 800is lbs of stuff at 70-80 mph, and as good as almost 22 on hwy at about 75-80 avg mph.

Summary:

Like a rock!!!

Faults:

This truck has proved to be a best buy when your looking for just the right amount of power and versatility with the economical part in mind.

General Comments:

The only problems I have had would be the handle on the drivers seat to recline the back rest has broke. But it was about 5 degrees outside when it happened, I think it may have been frozen. My brother has the 1500, he laughs every time he passes me, but I'm the one laughing as I pass him at the fuel pumps.

2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS extended cab 4x4 4.3 litre 180 horsepower

Summary:

A nice reliable sporty truck in good or bad weather

Faults:

We bought this truck with the 60/40 front bench seat in order to fit another passenger if need be in the truck. The flip-up arm rest center was made from CHEAP trim grade thickness plastic that as soon as you would use this to adjust yourself in the seat would break in two. We have made ourselves a permanent fix for it.

Engine has been flawless, the 4x4 works great, but refused to disengage once resulting in pulling into a parking lot, shutting the engine off and reseting the computer. I am not happy with the paint, it has no tolerance at all for even the slightest rub or ding without chipping or scratching . The factory bed liner is misaligned and looks bad and doesn't allow the tailgate to close correctly, so the previous owner forced it and the gate latch needs to be replaced.

General Comments:

The truck is great to drive on pavement, quiet and easy to handle. On gravel or rough roads even a 3 years old it sure has its share of rattles.

The third door works well and give great access to the back of the cab. I am a shorter lighter weight person and the seat back height is a bit much for seeing around, so merging into traffic is a bit of a challenge. The rear window affords great visibility when you are in the right position to see around the seat backs. The height of the seat back would not be an issue if the driver is a bit taller.

Mileage is only fair for a truck this size, but acceptable I average about 18 miles a gallon. It handles well in traffic with plenty of power to get out of the way or merge into traffic. The gauge cluster is well thought out and easy to read. The front seats are comfortable for long trips. Forget the jump seat, it's not safe for anyone, just a "get by" thing so you can get to point b.

Will pull a large load with little problem. Handling is noticebly compromised, but adjusting is not a issue. Touchy brakes on this truck make for a jerk now and then.
