1982 Chevrolet Silverado 305

Summary:

A very reliable vehicle

Faults:

Transmission failed at 160,000 km.

Catalytic converter failed at 250,000 km.

Seats substantially worn at 180,000 km.

Fuel tank switch replaced at 80,000 km.

Paint started flaking around 120,000 km.

General Comments:

This was a very reliable vehicle. Aside from the noted problems, nothing went wrong with this truck.

The vehicle was driven mostly on the highway, and consistently returned about 20 mpg (Imp).

After about 160,000 km, fuel economy started to decline by about 10%. However, after having the carburetor rebuilt, fuel economy went back up to 20 mpg again.

As mentioned, the original 4 speed automatic transmission failed at about 160,000 km, although it was frequently serviced. It was replaced by a newer version of the 4 speed automatic, which caused no problems and shifted better than the original unit.

The truck was reasonably comfortable with a good ride, and was rattle free, even on bumpy gravel roads.

In 1993, I sold the truck to a farmer who used it on a daily basis, and drove it about another 200,000 km with hardly any problems.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
