1985 Chevrolet Van G20

Summary:

GRRRReat!!

Faults:

Wanted a roof AC so I could be self-contained, but the installer told me it couldn't be done and put a window unit in plexi-glass in the back, UGH!... very inconvenient for Florida.

General Comments:

This has become a great hobby... I love this van, I'm the 2nd owner, the built-ins are fabulous and it's very comfy.

I'm retiring in June and plan on making the "Walmart Circuit" with my Yorkie... has anyone ever done this??

I'll also be staying in campgrounds.

1985 Chevrolet Van g20 conversion 305 V8

Summary:

A luxury bedroom on wheels

Faults:

Battery.

Tires.

Electrical interior lighting doesn't work very well.

Blower motor is making noise, but still running.

General Comments:

This is my first conversion van, it rides like cloud 9, the kids are happy with the t.v.

The air still blows cold.

The previous owner installed a two core radiator to keep it cool on those hot summer days.

The mood lights are nice when they work.

This van has two pop up sunroofs in the front, nice to have and hard to find.

It runs great, but is an extreme gas hog. 10 mpg city/11 highway. Maybe a tune-up will help, however it starts great all the time.

Runs super in the snow, don't know how much this weighs, but it feels like a bunch. This is a raised roof, long wheelbase version. It just punchs through the snow.

The seats are super comfortable, armrests, recline and swivel, the bed is nice to have on a long road trip. Although I don't like the fact that there are no seatbelts for the back bench seat/bed.

Some rattles that come with a vehicle of this age of course. But overall I love it and plan to keep it as long as my wife will let me. Or as long as I can afford to buy the gas for it.

1985 Chevrolet Van G-20 Conversion 5.0 V8

Summary:

A great value and a marvel for it's age

Faults:

The van has lost A/C

One power lock broken

Carburetor

Oil leak.

General Comments:

The previous owner of this van was a senior citizen who only performed oil changes and exterior maintenance. Even with the neglect, this is a very comfortable vehicle.

The steering is amazing considering that this is a full-size van.

The brakes are responsive.

One must remember that this is a machine, and like all machines it will need maintenance. This old wonder still had the original spark plugs and wires, carburetor, etc. and just kept running. I've just given this vehicle it's first real tune-up in 17 years.
