1996 Chrysler Cirrus LX

Summary:

It's affordable, somewhat reliable, and gets me where I need to go

Faults:

The most recent problem I had was just a few days ago when my temperature gauge was showing that the car was overheating. I refilled the radiator with coolant, but the next day after driving it for 20 minutes the temp gauge again showed it was low. I took it to a mechanic and found out the water pump was busted. I forked out a good 300 for that.

Before that, my brakes were shot. Completely. New shoes, pads, brakes, you name it, it was broken. And I'm not just a dumb girl that believes the mechanic, I had him show me all of it before deciding to spend the 700 to get it all fixed.

Oh, last year in the dead of winter (I live in Chicago), my window wouldn't roll up after I rolled it down. It was stuck like that until the next day when a mechanic held the window up using a brick that he lodged into the door panel. It's been like that since. I haven't been able to roll down my window, but at least I don't freeze, and I don't get robbed. The regulator was broken. And that's about 200 to fix with labor.

My odometer and taco-meter are busted. It costs a lot to figure out why because they'd have to take out the whole dashboard, and that alone is a pain, so I'm not getting that fixed or figured out any time soon.

There are recalls done on the vehicle every 6 months or so.

General Comments:

Someone in a different thread had mentioned that he/she doesn't like the fact that there is no middle console. I completely agree that that is a negative aspect of the car. I like to be able to keep some things private in my car, such as extra change, or my remote for my stereo (I installed a different one), or other items I don't want people breaking into my car for. My glove compartment is stuffed with vehicle information, so there's no room there. And it would be nice to be able to put my arm down on something.

Basically, it's a good looking car, it gets me where I need to go, and I need a car, so I'm willing to spend the $ to get it fixed when necessary.

1996 Chrysler Cirrus LXi V6

Summary:

Overall, I am very happy with my car!

Faults:

Transmission went out at 90,000.

Struts went bad at 30,000.

Main seal leak at 90,000.

Air Conditioning is acting up now at 124,000. The air conditioning motor is fine and the blower blows air, but cooling is intermittent. So far mechanics cannot find cause. May need to replace.

General Comments:

Positive features are:

V-6 has great acceleration.

Very comfortable seating and roomy interior.

Steers and handles smoothly on straight away as well as on curves.

Large window and windshield area make for very good visibility; no blind spots.

From my experience, the car's exterior held up very well in a 5 car pile-up accident I was involved in (considering the severity of the accident and compared to the damage the other cars involved sustained.

Negative Features Are:

Limited trunk area due to small trunk opening and back speakers which are mounted from the trunk.

Road noise is extremely noticeable even with windows completely rolled up and radio on.

Molding around doors deteriorated quickly.

1996 Chrysler Cirrus

Summary:

Best Used car I've owned

Faults:

The only thing that I've gone wrong with this car is the water pump had to be replaced about 6 mouths ago. It cost 400 some dollars. Other than that it is a great car.

General Comments:

This car has everything that you could want. It is a good first car for a teenager like me. Or it is great if you are just looking for something to take you to work on a daily bases.
