2000 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

I like the car and would by another, but not a 2.7

Faults:

Knocking noise all of a sudden. No oil pressure warning light came on.

General Comments:

I am extremely disappointed in finding out that the engine failure in my Intrepid is common and Chrysler is ignoring this. I'm nearing 60 Yrs. and trusted in getting a lot of years out of the car.

I am also very disappointed in the Chrysler Intrepid. I agree with another comment. My 2000 Dodge Intrepid engine died at 35,000 miles. This resulted in finding another engine for the grand total of $5,000. Chrysler is ignoring this huge problem. They are blaming vehicle owner on missing 2 oil changes. I was told the engine heats up to 250 degrees and cannot handle missing an oil change. I was told the engine gets too hot. I will not buy another Chrysler. I made my final car payment today.

2000 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7

Summary:

Don't buy one!

Faults:

I own a 2000 Chrysler Intrepid, and at less than 62,000 km the timing guide broke, which caused the chain to do damage to head valve, and pistons.

The repairs cost me $1995.00 because the dealership claimed that Chrysler was covering the parts and they covered some labor. I went without a vehicle for 2 weeks, then it went back in because the rpm was going up and down as I drove and when I started it. Also, they forgot to hook the air conditioner back up.

They sent a piston to be machined, but that didn't work, so they claim they put a new piston in, because it was too damaged. Another week without a car.

Now the motor is ticking, and they tell me it's because the oil is black. They changed my oil 1600 km ago!

I've had, windows repaired twice (and they're still not working right), weatherstripping replaced because it shrunk... I can't even remember half of the things that went wrong with it. There's just too much.

Never will I purchase a Chrysler again! Not only do they not stand behind their vehicles, but they also just don't care. Yes, if there is a class action lawsuit out there, I'd like to know about it.

The only thing nice about this car is the space.

The mechanics at the dealership themselves have told me that they have seen a lot of these Intrepid cars come in with the same problems. I have to go get my car at the dealership again now. I'm sure something else will gone wrong with it within a week. I'm at the point now where I wait to bring it in just so I can get to work and back for a while, without having to put out too many taxi payments. It sure adds up. I hate this car!

Well, you got screwed by your car seller. This have nothing to do with Chrysler. Part failure is possible, even at 5 000 km. This is part of the game, this is why warranty exist. But don't blame the car, this is not a common problem on this car. I apologize for your story and I understand that's its not everyone who are a natural born mechanic. Have a nice day.
